Nice hotel in remodelled historic building on the edge of a city park. Very nice restaurant, bar and patio which is family friendly. Some rooms face the road and can be very noisy so need to watch for this when rooms are allocated and ask to change rooms if you can see the road.

This a hidden gem of Amsterdã. It’s a lovely place that looks like a 5 star hotel. The Park is a big surprise and the room is really good. It’s a short walk to many transportations. There are markets and restaurants nearby

Perfect hotel in a very nice location in Amsterdam. We loved the old style of orphanage refreshed in too a new hotel at the Oosterpark. Nice drinks in the evening at the bar with a good view to the park.

This is a really comfortable hotel with a great staff and convenient location. The facilities were very complete and we loved having the 24 hour snack and drink bar in the lobby. We didn’t try the restaurant other than a coffe one morning, which was also excellent.

Utrecht is a city in the Netherlands, known for its medieval center. It has tree-lined canals, Christian monuments and a venerable university. The iconic Domtoren, a 14th-century bell tower with city views, stands opposite the Gothic Cathedral of St. Martin on central Domplein square. A Dutch insurance company has been the first in the world to offer health insurance specifically designed for homosexual needs, starting in 2008. The insurance package was developed jointly with the Gay and Lesbian Association and includes additional "pink elements" such as the guarantee of treatment in homophile hospitals, special home care assistance and of course special attention to HIV. The most pleasant social climate for homosexuals can be found in the West Holland metropolitan area (the triangle of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht). The gay scene is particularly well represented in this region, but you can find gay caf�s practically everywhere else in the Netherlands.

Girly week end for gay pride

This was my very first time in a Hostel, and for the most part I was not disappointed. It is affordable and for the price it was a good bear-magazine.com staff were professional and very helpful. I felt safe there and was not concerned. I was though a little naive thinking coed hostel meant girls in one room and boys in the other, so if that matters to you make sure you let them know you want either or. These are my critiques: 1) The breakfast: there was processed meat and cheese which I won’t eat; I think they should look into some real protein i.e. boiled eggs. There was also no fruit. If you have ever watched the episode of Seinfeld with the "soup nazi" there is a gentleman working there who fits that bill. I felt observing that he was harsh and treated people like children. 2) The bathroom showers could use a mat and the bathrooms could have been attended to a little better. 3) the pantry was a disgusting mess, (by occupants) but when I mentioned to the staff they said it gets cleaned in morning. That evening I saw the cleaning staff walk in and out of there and in my opinion they should have cleaned it.

The location is about 20 mins tram journey or 30 mins on the bus (which have to be used at night past 12pm). The trams are 7,50 euros per day so spend this money on a more expensive hostel in the centre rather than this bear-magazine.com you’re intending to go out, there is a walk back once you get off the tram/bus. Although street lit, it is not a very safe walk, as there are very few people around and as two young females was really not ideal. The rooms were spacious and comfy bedding but it attracts a slightly weird crowd (i.e older single travelling men). Being two young female travellers this really wasn’t ideal, but maybe other dorms were fine. We had one person drinking in the room, and another night we came back to find someone asleep in my friends bear-magazine.com than this the place is mainly school kids. The bathrooms were dirty, one shower and one toilet between 8 (mixed gender) with no bin in. The free breakfast is good and there is space for luggage to be stored.

I spent 4 nights at WOW and stayed with my friend in a 6 bed dorm. The hostel is very far away from the city centre but we bought tram passes and this worked out okay. What I disliked was the bathroom – it wasn’t cleaned often enough and the floor was always wet and dirty. All bathroom facilities were in one room and it would have been better to have a sink in the dorm too, just because you could be waiting for so long to use the bathroom. The hostel is well decorated and lovely and spacious however I feel like this could be made use of more. It would be nice for some sort of evening events encouraging young travellers to meet. My stay in the hostel was fine but I would choose somewhere else next time.

So I aim to provide a fair review of this hostel by breaking it down into tne stuff that matters.1. LocationIt’s located out on the west of Amsterdam right by the ringroad. On a plus this makes it easy getting from Schiphol airport. Station Sloterdijk is a stop before Centraal station and therefore a little cheaper. Basically you head back on yourself from Sloterdijk following the footpaths thst run parallel to the railway until you come to Wiltzahnlanger where the hostel is located. The area around the hostel at first seems a bit shady but in actual fact it is mainly family homes so you never really see any social problems. All in all its quite a safe area.2. TransportYou have to walk at least 5-10 minutes in any direction for transport. Two trams (12 avoids the main attractions & 14 goes to Dam Sqr and Leidseplein) provide the best options and there is a nightbus to Sloterdijk if you stay out late. Fares as of July 2015 are €2.90 for 1 hours travel – Starts from the minute you touch in and can be bought on trams and at selected newsagents. A 24hr ticket is €7.50. Walking to the city (Dam Sqr) takes about an hour so maybe not all that convenient. Bikes are available to rent at the hostel for €15/day.3. The HostelClean, modern and comfortable. The rooms are very loud in colour either yellow, red, green or blue. Bathrooms depending on room will be either ensuite or in a block just outside. Each room has an allocated bathroom so no lengthy queues. Beds are comfortable, rooms are spacious. You get wifi. Theres an under bed locker chest for all your items (requirements a padlock). All doors have a swipecard and beds are claimed on a first come first served basis. The common area downstairs is quite modern and artsy though i wouldn’t say comfortable. It lacks lounging sofa’s but there is ample seating. There’s a restaurant for dinner that serves good quality reasonably priced food from 6-8pm and there is a little kitchenette if you have your own food (microwave only and no plates – cutlery can be purchased from the reception). Breakfast is included in the price and is served from 8-10.30 and is very simple. Personally i purchased my own stuff from the local lidl supermarket. I would prefer to pay for breakfast and there be a bigger and better offering but i guess not everyone is concerned/awake for breakfast. Staff seemed friendly enough. Seemed busy with check ins on weekend evenings so you might wish to consider other times to check in. Especially if you have questions. Check in is after 3pm and check out is before 11 (they have a luggage room if you need to store your stuff.4. Local amenitiesIn the hostel they have a pool table, table football, t.v, outdoor community garden, artists in residence with art showcases, minor exhibitions, wifi access though this seemed hit and miss for bear-magazine.com of the hostel there’s a lidl supermarket 5 mins walk towards Sloterdijk, a few restaurants and take aways but not a lot else. You have to travel closer to central Amsterdam for the entertainment.5. OverallPros:Quiet location handy for travel from Schiphol airport or bear-magazine.com value for moneyModern, clean and relaxedQuirky arts themed building and roomsCons:At least 30 mins into Central Amsterdam with a walk to the bear-magazine.com a bit of atmosphere in the communal areas by being so bear-magazine.com areas could be more inviting with sofas and comfy chairs.Breakfast pretty poor despite being included. Would rather pay an extra charge to have something more substantial and of better quality.

Breakfast was disappointing, Internet was really slow, bathrooms were out of Soap and toilet paper and often dirty. Staff was pleasent and the bedrooms were clean and quiet However, I paid only €15 for my room.

Straße reguliersdwarsstraat

Wenn es darum geht, wie Schwule sich in Amsterdam am besten die Zeit vertreiben können, ist die Reguliersdwarsstraat mit Sicherheit keine Enttäuschung. Die Reguliersdwarsstraat ist eine lebhafte Straße im Zentrum der bezaubernden Altstadt, die jede Menge Gay-Clubs, -Restaurants und schwulenfreundliche Adressen bietet. Du kannst Dir zum Beispiel zunächst im SoHo, einer Bar im englischen Stil, einen Drink genehmigen und anschließend im NYX die Nacht durchtanzen. Dieser Komplex auf drei Ebenen, der bis in die frühen Morgenstunden geöffnet ist, bietet DJs und Darbietungen aller Musikgenres eine Bühne. Die von der Decke hängenden Regenbogenfahne sorgen dafür, dass Du Dich hier vom ersten Augenblick an wie zu Hause fühlst.

Warmoesstraat + zeedijk

Wenn Du mehr auf Leder und Fetisch stehst, geh rüber in die Warmoesstraat. Dabei handelt es sich um eine der ältesten Straßen von Amsterdam, die von Fetisch-Cafés und -Bars in Hülle und Fülle gesäumt ist, darunter Getto, The Eagle und Dirty Dicks. Hier kannst Du Dich voll und ganz unters Volk mischen und im Erotikladen Mr. B. auch Dein Outfit passend ergänzen. In der Warmoesstraat findet sich darüber hinaus die beste Gay-Cruising-Szene in Amsterdam mit vielen Saunas, die offen für Leute sind, die ihre dunkelsten Fantasien erforschen möchten.

Zeedijk, das unweit vom Hauptbahnhof Amsterdam liegt und früher den schlechten Ruf eines heruntergekommenen Viertels genoss, bietet heute eine ganze Reihe schwulenfreundlicher Lokalitäten. Falls Du Lust verspürst, bei einem Drag-Bingo mitzumachen, ist ein Besuch im The Queen’s Head ein Muss.

Wenn es um einige der besten Orte für Gay Clubbing in Amsterdam geht, sind das FunHouse und das Club Church die Art von Lokalen, in denen Du Dich so richtig austoben kannst. The pared-down, warehouse-cool aesthetic at Sir Adam is maintained across the quirky communal areas, complete with vinyl library, acting as the perfect hub to socialise ahead of a night out at Noord’s lively bars, restaurants and clubs. Expect bold artwork, bespoke wood furniture and bright accents, as well as their unique selling point of in-room Crosley record players and Gibson guitars for that amateur jam session you’ve always wanted.

For a more locally sourced affair, we suggest you take your pick from the slew of contemporary, no-nonsense restaurants that have taken Amsterdam by storm. BAK is a prime example. Housed on the top floor of an old theatre, with unparalleled views over the IJ, the bold, veggie-friendly chef’s menu – all from local produce – and exquisite vins natures will make you fall in love over and over again. Drawing on the same principles, the boys at Scheepskameel serve their honest recipes in one of the most elegant locations you’re likely to come across, on the historical marine grounds near Oosterdok. And they only have German wines – toll! But the winner when it comes to waterside industrial charm and affordable modern cuisine is Hotel de Goudfazant in the North, a 1200 square meter former car garage that makes for a classy yet easy-going night out.

Amsterdam is probably one of the few cities in the world where the traditional idea of a gay bar is probably no longer necessary. The Netherlands was in fact the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage so it’s no surprise its iconic city of Amsterdam is so progressive. Remember, this is the place where prostitution is legal and you can actually buy and smoke (or eat!) marijuana legally in places called “coffeeshops” all throughout the city including The Otherside Coffeeshop, a gay favorite place in town.

While Amsterdam may be totally gay-friendly and full of mixed places, you can still find plenty of gay places like Trut (popular Sundays) or classics such as Café ’t-Mandje (the oldest gay bar in town) where gay locals and tourists alike head out to meet, mingle, flirt and more.

There are a few specific areas of town where you can find gay places together including the popular street named Reguliersdwarsstraat. You’ll find a handful of gay bars on this street including Taboo and Exit (Aprés Chique). The area called Amstel also has a few bars with more traditional Dutch atmosphere and style including favorites like Amstel 54 and De Lellebel, a drag queen café in town renowned for its glittering lip-sync performances.

Amsterdam’s gay glory days are probably in its past, which peaked in the 70’s and 80’s. Due to the open and progressive nature of the city, Amsterdam just doesn’t have the same type of gay clubbing scene that you might expect in other big European cities. NYX is Amsterdam’s main gay dance club and you can find the occasional circuit party hosted on a monthly basis like those put on by Rapido Events.

The other popular gay area in Amsterdam is around Zeedijk and Warmoesstraat, which is where you’ll find the fetish shops and several gay cruising bars like EagleCuckoo’s NestDirty Dicks – perhaps appropriately located near Amsterdam’s red-light district. Gay events in amsterdam

Pride Amsterdam – a truly one-of-a-kind experience with the canal parade attracting over 300,000 spectators, street and club parties and a Drag Queen Olympics. Huge boats full of everything from sexy dancers to leather-bound bears pass down the waterways of the city during late summer as hundreds of thousands celebrate in one of the most open and progressive cities on the planet.

King’s Day – takes place in April in honor of the Dutch King. The main day’s activities are followed by a gay-inspired night with many parties across the city.

NH Centre Utrecht Hotel offers stylish accommodation in a unique 19th century building. Many of its guest rooms still have original stained glass windows.

Each of the fully-equipped, spacious rooms come with lovely views and free Wi-Fi. All of the rooms have a private bathroom. Guests can enjoy late check-outs.

The ground floor under NH Centre Utrecht houses café Broers and Luden Restaurant. Guests can enjoy an extensive menu, from a champagne brunch to Dutch and international cuisine.

The famous Dom Tower is located a 5-minute walk away from NH Utrecht Centre. On Saturdays, Utrecht’s flower market is held right in front of the hotel.

In a 1780 building on Janskerkhof Square in the Old Town, this down-to-earth hotel is 4 minutes’ walk from the Dom Tower of Saint Martin’s Cathedral and 13 minutes’ walk from Utrecht Centraal train station.

The warm, understated rooms come with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, as well as minibars, and tea and coffeemakers. Some feature original stained-glass windows and views of the square. Suites add living areas.

A breakfast buffet and evening meals (fees) are served in an adjacent restaurant.

This hotel couldn’t be better located, a short walk from the train station in Utrecht as well as the largest shopping mall in the Netherlands. But it doesn’t take long to understand the fact that Utrecht has the second-most number of bicycles in Europe. And it seems they are all riding at once in bike lanes and streets as well near the hotel.

Once you figure out that the bicycle riders and not pedestrians have the right of way, you are fine. The breakfast was not complementary but was fine. We also had dinner there and it was very good. The room, as was the hotel, was quite modern and spacious. It is also important to know that there is another NH Utrecht hotel in the city.

The location is right in the city centre and within walking distance of lots of sights, shopping, restaurants, and the train station. The hotel nicely blends a modern aesthetic with an old world feel. Other reviewers mentioned that the bathroom was small, but this wasn’t an issue for us, although the shower was a little tricky to operate.

There was a problem with the cooling system while we were there, so the room was too warm, but the staff very quickly provided us with an electric fan to help keep the room from being too hot at night. The breakfast buffet was a little pricey, but it provided a large variety of food that should please a number of breakfast tastes. We thought the breakfast was very good, fresh, and nicely presented. Overall, we were happy with our choice of hotel and would recommend the NH Hotel Centre Utrecht.

Pleasant hotel in the centre of the city. Room was large and very clean and comfortable, cleaned daily also. There was a kettle with tea & coffee available which was a nice touch after travelling. Staff were pleasant and friendly although at times there was no one on the front desk. The only negative was the WiFi, the connection speed was very slow and at times unusable. Overall would stay here again.

The units in the hotel are equipped with a flat-screen TV. Some rooms also offer a kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven and a microwave. At The Anthony every room is fitted with a desk and a private bathroom.

In former monastery buildings, this unassuming hotel is 12 minutes’ walk from Utrecht Centraal railway station and a 16-minute walk from the Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs Exhibition & Convention Centre.

The colorful rooms provide complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs; upgraded rooms and suites add living areas, and/or tea and coffeemakers. Airy apartments have kitchenettes; some feature Nespresso machines, balconies and/or city views.

The Anthony hotel is 950 metres away from Utrecht central station, a 5-minute walk from the international exhibition centre Jaarbeurs, and reaches the RAI convention centre in Amsterdam within 40 minutes. The suites in this old monastery turned boutique hotel are spacious and very nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly and the outside terrace is stunning. Really a great place in Utrecht to stay for both leisure and business.

The hotel is still very new and dies not have a proper reception but the grills that received me were so friendly and helpful. I checked in and was guided to my room which surprisingly as a very huge and modern lift apartment with two bedrooms a living room area with kitchenette and bathroom divided in two areas, one with sink and shower and another with toilet and a little sink.

There were also appliances such as coffee machine and dishwasher and access to internet and Netflix. The decoration was also very modern and the apartment had an independent entrance directly to the street. The area was quite nice and quiet and close by to an area with plenty of options for eating out on a budget. The distance to the central station and centre is not very small but it is a nice walk.

The lounge and kitchen area was incredible. This consisted of a nice little table with a couple of chairs, a really comfortable settee & a television with many channels to watch.

There was a coffee maker, microwave oven and a hob also. Teabags, coffee and milk bear-magazine.com shower wet room with attached wall hair dryer was sufficient in size. It wasn’t a problem for me, considering that I’m 5ft 10″ and weigh bear-magazine.com was an unusually small sink but nowhere really to put your toothpaste, etc but you can adapt and use the little level within the sink bear-magazine.com toilet also has a small narrow sink.

I slept like a log in my comfy bed on all of my 4 nights stay here. It was a double bed but as this bedroom is smaller than some rooms at this Hotel, you can only get out of one side of the bed, which could cause a problem with a couple staying in this room.

3. mary k hotel 4* – lgbt friendly hotels

This luxury art hotel is located in an historic town house, right at the historic Oudegracht canal. It offers spacious, modern accommodation with design furnishings and free WiFi.

The uniquely decorated rooms are equipped with flat-screen TV, DVD player and a Nespresso coffee machine. They have a spacious bathroom with free Malin+Goetz toiletries, fair-trade bath towels, and a hairdryer.

Organic breakfast is available daily and served at the communal breakfast lounge or brought to your room.

The famous Utrecht Dom Tower is 1,800 feet away. Many shops, restaurants and bars can be found in the city centre, only a 5-minute walk away. Central train station is 0.6 miles from the property.

Set in an 18th-century canalside property, this sleek boutique hotel is a 9-minute walk from Museum Speelklok and 13 minutes’ by foot from Utrecht Centraal train station.

Individually decorated rooms feature vintage furniture, TVs and free Wi-Fi, plus minibars and Nespresso machines. Some include exposed beams, garden access or balconies with canal views. An upgraded room in a 14th-century cellar adds a kitchen and a whirlpool tub. Room service is available.

The Mary K Hotel is a green deluxe art-hotel situated in a 18th century canal house on the well known ‘Oudegracht’ in downtown Utrecht. She accommodates ten rooms of various sizes and themes. We divided them in Cosy Small, Comfortable Medium, Large Deluxe and Studio Suite XL. But every single one of them is totally different.

The whole interior of the Mary K Hotel was designed together with Utrecht based artists. Although Mary K offers you the comforts of a luxury hotel, we aim for the atmosphere to be laid-back, friendly and personal. We can safely say that we are one of the greenest hotels in The Netherlands.

This hotel is an absolute gem, the location is great (right in the centre) and the staff are very friendly. The room itself was beautiful and clean, with a huge terrace (room 6). The only “noise” you hear are the church bells down the street. We didn’t even know there were other guests until we went down for breakfast. Very solid sound isolation, in other words.

Their breakfast options include gluten free and vegan options, or with my specific food intolerance, a low fructan and fructose option.

The only downside is the fact that the bathroom door isn’t really a door, but more of a sliding glass door that doesn’t cover the entire door opening. Let’s just say “sounds” echo a bit in the bathroom.

On the brink of the canal surrounding the inner city, Mary K. is a townhouse overlooking the canal, this is the place to have base in Utrecht, if you wish to be just a couple of hundred meters from the main street, and the hustle of the city center.

Mary K. is outstanding in every way. Keywords are: Urban, laidback, unusual. In one word, Mary K. hotel has a great personality, a rare property that I, for one, appreciate.

A lovely, small, funky, eclectically furnished hotel within walking distance to just about everything in old-town Utrecht.

Had a huuuge third-floor room overlooking the waterway/canal (The Royal Rooftop Residence). The room was totally worth the climb, even for this 80-year old arthritic geezer. (Careful of those narrow-treaded stairs!).

Reception was everything one could ask: telephoning taxis, making restaurant reservations, providing recommendations, making one feel at home.

Good choices for breakfast. And juice from real oranges, too.

This is a small, lovely hotel near the main sites & shopping, but in a quiet area overlooking the canal. Room was clean, toiletries super & a balcony which we could sit & enjoy the evening sun.

The staff were very friendly & helpful, particularly with my request for gluten free breakfast. They went out of their way to help me. Pillows & beds very comfy. Nothing negative to say, would highly recommend.
