Q: Ty seemed to be almost a riture of a stereotypil gay person. I liked the ia that he really, ep down didn’t re if happened to be “gay” to like mil theater. He jt lik noted, was also important for to have characters like Gary, Nick, and will grayson the novel to prent multiple portras of gay teens.
Thematilly, I suppose this was important to me bee I thk both David and I wanted to normalize gay sexual enunters by equalizg them wh straight sexual mostly I jt saw Will’s reluctance to seek romantic entanglements as reflective not as asexualy but by his wronghead belief that pa is somethg avoidable/to be avoid. I gus I kd of wanted to force David’s hand here, bee I really wanted to wre a story that celebrated all different kds of love, that talked about love between iends and between kids and parents, and that wasn’t jt another love story which the only kd of love was seemed to me that part of our weird obssn wh romantic love is a weird attractn/repulsn to our sexualy, which is evably gog to be at play any time you wre about young homosexual men and women, bee there is still so much prejudice agast them.
