<p>This photograph of the entrance to the Happy World Amement Park (later known as Gay World) at Geylang Road om the album of an RAF pilot who served Sgapore, Ceylon and the Pacific between 1938 and of the RAF pilots who served Sgapore durg the 1930s were statned at Seletar Airbase the northeastern part of the island. Built on a 600-acre se formerly belongg to Sgapore Uned Rubber Plantatns, the airbase was operatnal by 1928 and officially beme an RAF statn 1930. The airbase also served as a civilian airport until 1937, when the Kallang Airport was opened to handle mercial flights. Seletar Airbase was signed to handle both nventnal aircraft as well as seaplan such as the Short Sgapore III and Short Sunrland flyg boats. The first batch of Sgapore IIIs parted om Pembroke Dock the Uned Kgdom for Seletar January 1935 to re-equip Number 205 Squadron. The first of the new Sunrlands arrived Seletar om Pembroke Dock June 1938 for e by Number 230 Squadron.</p>

Gay World, loted on 10 acr of land1 between Mountbatten and Geylang roads, was officially opened on 6 May 1937. The four bs that remaed were Gay World Stadium, Datoh Rajah Theatre and Cabaret (the olst baret Sgapore then), 14 Tai Thong Rtrant and New Happy Cema. 15 Gay World was rced to a mass of buildgs and shops sellg r parts, ed rs and furnure, and a “r park” where office workers nearby parked their rs.
