Wh barely a trace of the recent amic jargon, Woodhoe (English, MIT) b extraordary edn wh a personal style argug for works that "are central to the project of gay (male) fictn the postwar perd.
He divis gay fictn, loosely, to works that reprent or pict assiatn and those (which he clearly prefers) that embody a distctive gay inty. Woodhoe's close and extremely perceptive readgs of works by Whe, Isherwood, Andrew Holleran, Gore Vidal, Larry Kramer, and many more need to be read by anyone wh a ser tert Amerin gay male lerature.

Reviewed the Uned Stat on May 25, 2010In his troductn to THE LOST LIBRARY Tom Cardamone says that he e-mailed thors he had recently read and wrers he knew personally about out-of-prt books that had had an impact some fashn on their liv as gay men. He remd that gay teens are three tim more likely to m suici than other young people, a soberg statistic. Others wrote of beg embarrassed when they checked out a gay novel a school library or when they bought the book a bookstore and of the joy of fdg out that they were not alone, even when the book may not have measured up as first class lerature.
He should also add MARK by Lonnie Coleman--certaly a romanticized view of gay life but ten tim better than Gordon Merrick's tton ndy-- and anythg the brilliant French wrer Yv Navarre wrote. But not only did we lose gay wrers to AIDS.
THE LOST LIBRARY: GAY FICTN REDISVERED PAPERBACK – JANUARY 1, 2010
"THE LOST LIBRARY-- a betiful tle-- should be required readg for those of who want to know more about our gay lerary history. And that might be the most valuable lson of all--'s sort of a gay shame textbook a certa light, for some of the most tertg and amazg work was done by those forebears who believed the sndal, the disgt, the s and the shame that nowadays we don't even see, for today sex is cellophane, visible and unstaable. What about all those s between, Tom Cardamone, did no one have anythg to say about the gay cultural productn of all those years of shared social stggle?
Reviewed the Uned Stat on July 22, 2011Tom Cardamone giv an excellent brief rume of the recent history of gay lerature. Drawg on Amerin thors he outl the experienc of gay people as exprsed through their lerature and the procs creat an enlighteng perspective of the rtrictns and tribulatns they experienced (and still experience) certa circl. The burn of inty has bee a whole lot easier for gay people.
I expected to fd a wealth of unpublished stori om the gay muny, or thgs that were supprsed, or once-popular fictn that is now lost. There are NO actual stori or says this book - rather, is a seri of reviews of great gay books that are hard to fd.
