William Gaymer & Son Ltd of Attleborough and elsewhere, cir and related beverage manufacturers, and succsor pani. The manufacture of cir (spelt, 'cyr' by the Gaymers) by the Gaymer fay began 1770 on their farm at Banham as a sile supplyg the beverage to lleg at Cambridge. The sile expand greatly through the next century and 1870, William Gaymer, (1842-1936) troduced a new hydrlic prs at a purpose-built manufactory Banham.
Gaymer & Son, moved their entire operatn to a much larger se by the railway le, wh a dited sidg to the factory, the neighbourg parish of Attleborough. The Banham premis were retaed for ntued to crease and to attract further vtment the bs, William Gaymer cid to prs for rporate stat.

Possibly benefg om s relative proximy to Sandrgham, Gaymer's received s first royal warrant ( was to receive six more) 1928. In 1960, Gaymer's fally beme a public pany, but bs ntued to be variable and the new pany quickly me to be perceived as a likely target for takeover. This occurred 1961, when Wt-Country rival, Showergs Ltd of Shepton Mallet (the ventors of the perry drk, Babycham) ma their offer to purchase the pany's ordary shar; an offer swiftly accepted by Gaymer's name of Gaymer ntued to be ed, and William Charl Chapman Gaymer, grandson of the founr, retaed his role as managg director, and eventually beme chairman of the pany 1974.
The Attleborough factory ntued to be known, both lolly and the Showerg group of pani, as the premis of Wm Gaymer & Son Ltd. Once employg over 400 lol people, Gaymer's workforce was rced to 200 people by 1966 and to only 135 1986, when an announcement that sixty further workers were to be laid off bee of the relotn of the bottlg plant to Shepton Mallett rced the figure to seventy-five. Further nsolidatn occurred when Allied Breweri turn acquired Showergs (and therefore, Gaymers) 1968, and the pany, as Coat Gaymers Cirs Ltd, later beme ponent the large, bs empire of Allied Lyons Plc.
Followg a -merger and management takeover of the cir bs 1992, a new pany, The Gaymer Group Ltd, was formed and ntued to operate the factory at Attleborough. Although new vtment the factory at Attleborough had occurred the early 1990s, The Gaymer Group was purchased 1994 by the Bristol-based pany, Matthew Clark Plc, and was this new, rporate owner who cid to ncentrate productn the Wt Augt 1995, the factory was closed, s 11.
