I appreciate what he's done, and the way that everythg he mak is dialogue wh the zegeist, and also ph thgs forward, whether that's terms of reprentatn or subject matter. And I love him too as a person. </p><p data-no-id="10" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">But then, Huck, particular, was the first time I've really been given the opportuny to work om a physil place wh the special effects makp that I had on. It was a challenge for me. But that's what ma very excg, to have somethg to really sk my teeth to and explore.</p><p data-no-id="11" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0"><strong><strong>How long did take to apply Huck's make-up?</strong></strong></p><p data-no-id="12" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">Inially, took about four to five hours the chair to do each morng. And that speeds up as the team gets more acctomed to puttg on. One of my ey had this full lens , and I uldn't see out of . I'm a klutz to beg wh, but my pth perceptn was pletely thrown by the procs [<em><u>lghs</u></em>]. It's sort of a physil experience, havg that stuff on your face and your eye. It begs to shape how you are the world. And that is, I thk, the magic trick – the alchemy that an actor is attracted to. There was a sense of munn wh the character. </p><p data-no-id="21" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">I had three or four of the scripts my hand before we started filmg, but I didn't necsarily know where the character was gog, or how they were gog to get there. But the pury of Huck – he unrgo this huge journey over the urse of the season, to self-acceptance and self-love. We really beme a fay, both on Broadway and while shootg the film Los Angel. But most of the time, I'm the only out person on a set, and while that's not necsarily lonely, do do thgs to you. And to feel this play a sense of inty wh, and a ntuum to, 1968 – there is an lible qualy or spir to queer life that I don't thk uld ever be removed om , or erased om the narrative. This play is pickg back up, and re-nonisg for a new generatn.</p><p data-no-id="38" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0"><strong>Speakg of gay history, one of my favoure shows of all time is <em>Dperate Hoewiv</em>. </strong><strong>A lot of time has passed sce the show end, but would you ever be terted returng for some kd of revival?</strong><br /></p><p data-no-id="39" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">Oh, sure! I found kd of offensive. I don't want to be limed as a gay man or a gay actor. I don't want to be limed to only playg gay rol. But at the same time, to be told I might be endangerg my reer by choosg to play more than one of them? That jt didn't seem te or accurate of the tim.</p><p data-no-id="44" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">I'm a part of a shift happeng where, y, I'm a gay actor who's takg on gay rol, but there are so many more queer people steppg to posns of power, whether that is as producers or wrers or directors. So much of what needs to happen is more equy behd the scen, and havg all kds of people posns of power. I thk that's what needs to happen most. Even on the crew si. Crews n be more reflective of the world we actually live .</p><p data-no-id="53" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">Reprentatn <em>is</em> important. But I wouldn't want any story to be nfed by obligatns to reprent everybody well all the time, you know? Not all stori have to be pretty. The trans muny – particularly the black trans muny, and black trans women – have had almost no reprentatn onscreen. There's a direct relatnship between that and the transphobic vlence which exists the Uned Stat and across the world. </p><p data-no-id="56" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0"><strong>When you me out, what was the fan rponse like at the time?</strong></p><p data-no-id="57" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">Oh my God. The fan rponse was credible. I felt immediately held by everybody who, I gus, had taken a she to me the work I'd done. </p><p data-no-id="58" class="css-18vfmjb et3p2gv0">In your head, you, of urse, n through the worst-se scenar. But I jt feel I was so supported by fans and the entertament dtry. I'm sulated by a lot of privilege that.
