It tak an eclectic, multatnal view of the subject which, for me at least, troduced many figur I had not heard of, though I nsired myself que well-rmed this area, and giv good weightg to the female as well as male experience of gay life too.

The choice of subjects is perhaps a ltle arbrary: we have the ual gay ins like Wil and Diaghilev, but many of them are missg too: Alexanr the Great, for stance, or Gilgamh, or our prent day, the many wrers and artist who have traced the gay experience, such as Ge, Ban and Isherwood, who might only get passg referenc. There's also the qutn of what happened to gay people the 17th-18th centuri: were gay voic so silenced then that ltle surviv today?
