Rick served on the board and as Print of the Counsel on Relign and the Homosexual (CRH) the 1960s. CRH was the first anizatn the US to e the word “homosexual” s name, prev groups monly ed “homophile” or avoid direct reference to homosexualy or “Gay” all together.
In 1971 Rick began an effort to get Gay and Lbian reprentatn on San Francis Cy Boards and was the first out Gay person to serve on the San Francis Fay Servic Agency (SFSA) Board of Directors where he served for 4 years. In 1972 he ran as the first openly Gay ndidate for the Communy College Board of Directors.

Wh the support and iendship of out Gay bsman David Goodste, Rick beme volved the Whman-Radcliff Foundatn which was dited to intifyg and workg to change anti-LGBTQ laws, laws that were beg ed to harass or hib the reers and liv of LGBTQ people and general law reform that touched on LGBTQ equaly. Rick was the foundg print of the Goln Gate Bs Associatn, the first Gay bs associatn the US and was active learship there for many years.
Rick will forever be part of one of the LGBTQ muny’s great historic events as one of his attempts at public office was as the “other Gay ndidate” who ran agast Harvey Milk for San Francis Cy Supervisor 1977.
