BOSTON, Massachetts — The Gay Men’s Domtic Vlence Project (GMDVP), a non-prof anizatn providg support and servic to gay, lbian, bisexual, transgenr, and queer (GLBTQ) victims and survivors of domtic vlence, is proud to formally announce s name change to the GLBTQ Domtic Vlence Project (GLBTQ DVP).
In 2011, the agency engaged a strategic planng procs where stakeholrs acknowledged the diversy of GMDVP’s clients and expand the missn to clu all gay, lbian, bisexual, transgenr and queer muni.
GAY MEN’S DOMTIC VLENCE PROJECT
The ial goal of the agency was to provi support and servic for gay male victims and survivors of domtic vlence; however, by 2000, the agency expand s foc to clu bisexual men and transgenr dividuals. The Center for Disease Control and Preventn released a report January 2013 that stated people who intify as gay, lbian and bisexual experience domtic vlence at a rate equal to or greater than their heterosexual unterparts. “I thk that our outreach mol has historilly foced on gay, bisexual and transgenr men, ” said At Bay, Outreach & Edutn Manager.
The Gay Men's Domtic Vlence Project (LGBTQ-DVP) was found 1994, by a victim of domtic vlence when he was repeatedly nied servic by mastream domtic vlence shelters his attempt to leave his abive partner.
The anizatn was origally named, A Support Service for Gay Male Victims of Vlence. The anizatn ially foced on creatg servic for gay male victims of domtic vlence and soon changed s name to the Gay Men's Domtic Vlence Project.
