After five days of beg out of service due to a crack the hull, the M/V Gay Head, one of the Steamship Authory’s “workhorse vsels” which rri mostly eight, was put back service Aug. While the M/V Gay Head was out of service, the M/V Santaky took over many of s ual rout. Most of the Authory’s trips were unaffected by the loss of the M/V Gay Head, pecially bee the M/V Gay Head rri mostly eight, not passengers, Drisll said.
The M/V Gay Head had a 4-ch crack the hull of the vsel’s aft that was disvered after a small amount of water the steerg gear void was found. A report by Mare Safety Consultants Inc., which was prented by the Authory General Manager Robert Davis at an April 19 meetg, found that the M/V Gay Head was functnally obsolete due to age.
