In 2015, Tom Kfhold started the NH Seaast LGBT History Project to “rearch, document, and prerve the history of gay, lbian, bisexual, and transgenr people on the Seaast of New Hampshire wh emphasis on Portsmouth” (NH Seaast LGBT History Project, 2021).
Above all, the exhib honored the fiftieth anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Rts, which took place after an unjt police raid of a popular gay bar New York Cy. Joseph Murphy spoke about his alholism and how impacted his journey of self-love and acceptance as a gay man growg up the 1960s.

He also spoke about his membership Seaast Gay Men, a social group for gay men the area formed 1979, and Gay Alholics Anonymo. Murphy stated he attend the support groups “religly, ” bee he was able to meet other gay men wh very siar experienc. Unfortunately, the two never had an official relatnship due to Stiefel’s stggle to e to terms wh his sexualy, which was ma worse by the overwhelmg homophobia of the time.
