One of Wnipeg’s first notable gay bars was Club 654, a members only after-hours club where liquor was not sold.
Unlike notor “raids” at other gay clubs ci across Canada, there were no raids at Wnipeg’s gay bars.
This tolerance has been attributed to the work of people like, the Honourable Ruth Krdle, the now retired judge who was stmental advotg LGBTQ2 rights, cludg beg unsel for Wnipeg’s first gay club 1969. It was also durg this time that the Manoba Gay Coaln was tablished, which clud anizatns om the more ral muni of Thompson and Brandon. This program, which featured openly gay people, was pretty much unheard of at the time.
