The Mount Gay Rum Estate ss atop a ridge to the north of Barbados. The Mount Gay tate was hered 1747 by his son, the ironilly named, Jam Sober. Acrdgly, Cumberbatch appoted his iend, Sir John Gay Alleyne, to ntrol the tate.
Sir John died 1801 and Cumberbatch named the tate, Mount Gay, his memory. The Mount Gay plantatn was acquired by the bsman Aubrey Ward the early part of the 20th century.
