Q Center particularly works to help those most unrserved through addrsg heterosexism, homophobia, and transphobia. The Anti-Vlence Project – Long Island (AVP-LI) nontsvlence mted both agast and wh lbian, gay, bisexual, transgenr (LGBT) and HIV-Posive project serv survivors of all vlence, cludg domtic vlence, timate partner vlence, sexual asslt, youth datg vlence, anti-LGBT and/or anti-HIV hate-motivated vlence, harassment, discrimatn, elr abe, and child abe. Over 650 LGBTQ and allied stunts om across New York Cy and Long Island held the largt rally the untry to nounce Florida’s hateful “Don’t Say Gay Bill” at the LGBT Network’s 26th Annual LGBT Youth Conference at Ci Field on March 16th. LGBTQ stunts, their alli, and lol lears showed support and solidary, by proudly proclaimg and chantg “WE SAY GAY” so loud that uld be heard all the way down South.

1993: Long Island Gay and Lbian Youth, Inc. The Queens Pri Para formed rponse to Rivera’s murr and, more directly, to the 1992 homophobic outcry over the cln of gay and lbian ntent the Children of the Rabow curriculum, which was signed to teach children tolerance of all of New York Cy’s diverse muni.

As a rult, former NYC Council Fance Chair Daniel Dromm, who was then a public school teacher the borough’s Communy School District 24 (where the ntroversy was centered), me out as openly gay and cid to unter the ensug propaganda wh a fay-iendly celebratory para that would promote LGBT visibily and pri, and be based a neighborhood where many closeted gay people lived. “I wanted people to know that lbians and gay men were their fay, iends, and neighbors. On November 22, 1992, the ial planng meetg was held Dromm’s Flhg apartment, and the formatn of the Queens Lbian and Gay Pri Commtee (QLGPC) followed soon after at a meetg of Queens Gays and Lbians Uned (Q-GLU).

Co-chaired by Dromm and Cuban-born LGBT rights activist Marza Martez, QLGPC nvassed neighborhood gay bars for donatns and support.
