That's what drew me to The Gay Dog, to see what was all about. A documentary about dogs and homosexualy, both of which are enjoyable topics of nversatn, should be good, mpy fun.

My Gay Dog and Other Animals (Channel 4) purports to be an examatn of the science behd same-sex behavur the animal kgdom, but is, sentially, the kd of segment that might have staed 10 mut on Eurotrash, stretched out over one long, hump-filled Secret Life of the Zoo, which is a far lovelier, more rmative and more passnate show, knows that people are fascated by animal reproductn.

My Gay Dog attempts to replite the formula, but do so wh a lumpen approach, managg to be both silly and arid at the same time, while also puttg this particular viewer the odd posn of feelg pdish about Tipper is om Frome, and his Italian greyhound, Norman, is regularly humped by another Italian greyhound, Fran, whom he shar wh his ex-girliend. “Well, I’ve thought for a long time that Matt’s dogs are gay, ” says Matt’s mum, gravely, as Fran ts away joyoly. There is an argument about whether those gay dogs are engagg sexual or social behavur – whether Fran is simply beg domant, rather than horny.
