We've e a long way sce Marissa Cooper’s brief flg wh Alex Kelly on <em>The O.C.</em> 16 years ago — n you believe ?</p><p>Though an improvement om prev years, LGBTQ+ characters acunted for jt 10.2 percent of regular characters that appeared on broadst scripted primetime programmg this past season of TV, acrdg to <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">GLAAD's 2019-20 TV report</a>. Over on the big screen, <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">GLAAD's 2019 Stud Rponsibily Inx</a> found that of the 110 releas om major studs 2018, 20 (18.2 percent) clud LGBTQ+ characters.</p><div><div class="ConsumerMarketgUnThemedWrapper-iUTMTf jssHut nsumer-marketg-un nsumer-marketg-un--article-mid-ntent" role="prentatn" aria-hidn="te"><div class="nsumer-marketg-un__slot nsumer-marketg-un__slot--article-mid-ntent nsumer-marketg-un__slot---ntent"></div><div class="journey-un"></div></div></div><p>While overall LGBTQ reprentatn creased durg 2018, the racial diversy of LGBTQ+ characters dropped, trans characters remaed pletely absent, and more than half of all LGBTQ+ characters received unr three mut of screen time. And when sex between queer folks do occur, often tak place off-screen. What’s more, the queer love and sex we <em>do</em> get onscreen tend to be between whe, cis, non-disabled people.</p><div class="Contaer-bkChBi byNLHx"></div><p>Thankfully, the 2010s went out on a high note, offerg some of the most thentic and plex portrayals of queer love possibly ever. Film and TV had a ton of firsts when me to romance and sex volvg LGBTQ+ people. Young people are <a href=">ls ncerned wh bari</a> than ever before, and <em>Euphoria</em> reflects this better than any show to date. There’s <em>a lot</em> to love about this HBO seri, but at s heart is a good old love story between the teenage protagonist stgglg wh addictn, Rue (Zendaya), and her new iend, Jul (Hunter Schafer), a trans teen girl who’s new to town.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-1 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>Adorable and plex, their love is also somewhat unprecented onscreen. Though trans reprentatn is <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">slowly, slowly (emphasis on slowly) improvg</a>, love stori between trans women and cis women — or between trans men and cis men, for that matter — are few and far between. (Until now, <em>Sense8</em> might be the most well known.)</p><p>Episo four brgs one of the year’s dreamit, most theatril onscreen smooch, as the two bt iends share their first kiss, but that’s not <em>the</em> moment. That moment the season fale when Rue suggts the two of them leave town and proceeds to nfintly, and fally, kiss Jul whout first askg, which is what Jul asked and hoped that she would do. It’s everythg we’d been wag for all season. Unfortunately, then thgs kd of go downhill.</p><h2><em>Vida</em>: Season 2; Episo 10</h2><p>Mexin-Amerin shownner Tanya Saracho’s Chinx drama has given some of the most memorable queer Latx sex scen of the Tmp princy. This should e as no surprise — after all, <a href=">the show’s wrers room</a> is 100% Latx, almost entirely women, and more than a third queer. (Saracho herself is a queer Lata.)</p><p><em>Vida</em> tells the story of two Mexin-Amerin sisters om Los Angel who return home to a gentrifyg Boyle Heights to take over a fay bar followg the sudn ath of their mother, Vidalia. They soon learn that their mom was hidg the fact that she was married to a woman (non-bary Chinx actor Ser Anzoategui), and the bar she owned and ran their entire life had bee a safe space for East L.A.’s Chinx lbians. The revelatn is a particular shock to the elr of the two sisters, Emma (Mishel Prada), who as a teen was sent away by Vida for beg queer.</p><p>Emma, who hasn’t revered om this experience, is guard and sex as a power move. In one of the first season’s most talked-about moments, Emma has sex wh a non-bary hookup she meets onle. She also begs a flg wh her childhood csh, Cz (Maria-Elena Laas). A season two episo starts wh Emma and Cz havg steamy sex (and puttg a ndom on a vibrator, which is the <a href=">rrect and saft way</a> to e a vibrator).</p><p>But isn’t until the season two fale that Emma fally gets sex <em>and</em> romance. After weeks of tensn between Emma and the dreamy Ni (Roberta Coldrez), the two fally do the ed. Their bar bathroom hookup ed me a great al of anxiety, but seeg two queer Latas hot and heavy on screen is nohels a e to celebrate.</p><h2><em>Pose</em>: Season 2; Episo 10 — “In My Heels”</h2><p>In season one of <em>Pose</em>, Angel (Indya Moore) — the young trans woman, sex worker, and beloved dghter of the Hoe of Evangelista — fds herself volved wh a married, cisgenr, heterosexual guy (Evan Peters). And if you’re like me, you were heartbroken. In a season full of heartache, Ricky later fds out he’s livg wh HIV. He seeks and fds support om Pray Tell (Billy Porter), wh whom he shar an HIV diagnosis as well as an unexpected but obv attractn. In one of the show’s steamit scen so far, Ricky and Pray have sex. The scene, directed by <em>Pose</em> -creator and executive producer, Steven Canals, was nothg short of momento. It’s rare enough for TV and film to portray hot sex between two gay men; <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">’s even rarer for to be two Black men</a>. And the fact that both men are Black and livg wh HIV was virtually unheard of.</p><h2><em>Booksmart</em></h2><p>In <em>Booksmart</em>, the straight protagonist Molly (played by Beanie Feldste, who herself is a long-term relatnship wh a woman) acts as wgperson to her gay bt iend, Amy (<a href=">Kalyn Dever</a>), who has yet to kiss a girl sce g out two years prr. When nsirg that the gay bt iend (GBF) trope shows no signs of slowg down, this self is a pretty radil plot for a Hollywood movie.</p><p>For anyone who isn’t faiar wh the plot of <em>Booksmart</em>, ’s simple: bt iends and over-achievers Amy and Molly set out to attend their first and fal high school party on the eve of graduatn, wh one of the ma goals beg that Amy tells her ol skater-girl csh how she feels.</p><div data-attr-viewport-monor="le-recirc" class="le-recirc-wrapper le-recirc-observer-target-3 viewport-monor-anchor"></div><p>Of urse, that don’t happen. But her teenage heartbreak quickly leads to the movie’s pnacle hookup scene, which Amy enunters her ol-but-kd-of-mean, very hot classmate Hope (Diana Silvers) the bathroom. Embolned by rejectn, Amy mak a move. The two proceed to make out. And then they do more than make out, a first for Amy and prumably for Hope as well. <a href=">It’s awkward</a> and ’s far om sexy — but isn’t that how most first hookups go?</p><p>Oh, and <a href=">Delta censored </a> at one pot. The femist nerds meet season two at the first Femist Gamers of Echo Park gatherg.</p><p>In the season three episo, “The First Time” (-wrten by queer wrer, Michelle Badillo, her send appearance on this list), the two 17-year-olds ci they are ready to have sex. Fstrated by months of havg to sneak make outs at the notorly un-private Alvarez hoe, Elena and Syd rent a hotel room for a night. It’s awkward and dorky (I mean, ’s soundtracked by the <em>X-Fil</em> theme song), and after Elena fds out Syd has had sex before, almost don’t happen.</p><p>Beg the first fay s to show a queer teen’s first time is no small feat, but <em>One Day at a Time</em> tackl wh a big heart and plenty of nuance.</p><h2><em>Dear Whe People</em>: Volume 3; Chapter 5</h2><p>For much of s first two seasons, Kelsey (Nia Jervier), the privileged Tri girl and roommate to one of the show’s more central characters, served largely as edic relief. Her first big moment the show’s send season, when her roommate — and viewers — are surprised to learn she’s a lbian, nor was she ever hidg . “I’ve been out sce Queen Ja’s wardrobe malfunctn,” she tells Co.</p><p>In season three, Kelsey fally gets her own love story when she locks ey wh Brooke (Courtney Sls), the nerdy, phy, know--all stunt journalist who was siarly a mor character the show’s first two seasons. Their adorable romance don’t last long at all, but the signifince of two Black girls romancg onscreen should not be fotten.</p><h2><em>Rocketman</em></h2><p>Among s many, many flaws, <em>Bohemian Rhapsody</em> was a <a href=">very un-queer, very sexls movie</a> about one of history’s queert, most sex-hungry rockstars. <em>Rocketman</em>, the far superr of the two recent mic bpics, is not the be-all and end-all of queer love and sex on the silver screen. The scene <a href=">still left much to the imagatn</a> wh the mera panng away jt as thgs start to get really steamy.
