Enola Gay, a B-29 Superfortrs, was placed to service May of 1945, toward the end of the Send World War. The story of the Enola Gay actually starts before the outbreak of the War the Pacific. Pl Tibbets wav om the ckp of Enola Gay, 6 Augt 1945.
At the head of the 509th, Tibbets piloted the B-29 Superfortrs—which he named for his mother, Enola Gay Tibbets—that led the bombg of the two ci. On Augt 6, 1945, the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb—known as "Ltle Boy"—on the cy of Hiroshima.

On 5 Augt 1945, durg preparatn for the first atomic missn, pilot Colonel Pl Tibbets who assumed mand of the aircraft, named the B-29 aircraft after his mother, Enola Gay Tibbets (1893–1983), who had been named for the heroe of a novel. The Hiroshima missn had been scribed by Gordon Thomas and Max Man Wts Enola Gay book as tactilly flawls, and Enola Gay returned safely to s base on Tian to great fanfare on the base. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ENOLA GAY AFTER IT DROPPED THE ATOMIC BOMB
Enola Gay the Smhsonian storage facily at Suland, 1987. On 6 November 1945, Lewis flew the Enola Gay back to the Uned Stat, arrivg at the 509th's new base at Roswell Army Air Field, New Mexi, on 8 November.
On 29 April 1946, Enola Gay left Roswell as part of Operatn Crossroads and flew to Kwajale on May 1st.

The cisn was ma to prerve the Enola Gay, and on 24 July 1946, the aircraft was flown to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, preparatn for storage.
