Lbian, gay, bisexual, and transgenr (LGBT)4 people experience disproportnate levels of mental illns; tobac, alhol and other dg e; suicidaly; discrimatn; and vlence (IOM, 2011). Physicians’ attus toward gay patients have shown a crease, but not disappearance, negative attus (Smh & Mathews, 2007).
Addnally, on a standardized tt of implic bias, health re provirs showed a preference for heterosexual people over gay men or lbians. The stereotyp clud the nnectns between gay men, transgenr people, and HIV; assumptns that women who have sex wh women do not have risk factors for STIs; and assumptns regardg sexual practic based on patients’ genr prentatns or sexual orientatns.
