Eher terpretatn is plsible, although I tend towards the ia that is "the gay [=homosexual] people. Why do you thk 's "los alegr" or "los homosexual"? It's a difficult ll, but if the third and fourth l are parallel thoughts, then "the homels" and "the homosexuals" uld be unrstood as parallel class of outst people.
I thk at the time of wrg 'gay' was more closely associated wh happy than homosexual hence my choice.
