Tell that special someone how you feel wh the spirg gay love quot about relatnships, romance, and that feelg you get when you're together. * i love you man gay *
Simmons, his gay yet mascule brother is played by Andy Samberg, and Jamie Prsly and Jon Favre play Zooey's bt iend and her blowhard poker playg hband.
Your th are pretty pellg, though: I Love You, Man as a film about a gay relatnship; Tallaga Nights as one about redneck tolerance; and Chasg Amy as one about trangrsg monosexualy.
I Love You, Man, for all of s progrsivens wh regard to homosocial relatnships, seems a ltle b more attached to the ia of the “bromance” as somethg hibg fluidy whout hibn.
I LOVE YOU, MAN. BUT, DU, SO NOT A GAY WAY
In thkg about your rponse, seems clear to me why a gay person would take issue wh some of the choic.
HOW TO TELL IF YOUR BOYIEND IS GAY
Bee the dience was prised of people still alg wh some sort of stutnalized or ternalized homophobia, the films rely – part – on some stereotyp or other regrsive pictns of sexual inty to make their massage palatable. It’s a bter pill to swallow, and there may be some risk volved (the rtoonish pictn of a gay man Tallaga Nights uld be sensizg), but I believe this is exactly how the mastream movi n make change. It’s nice to see male pannship play out as normal, whout gay panic humor, like Magic Mike XXL, where the strippers openly say “I love you” whout any such ncern attached to .
The film do, as you mentn, build to a moment where Pete (Rudd) n tell Sydney (Segel) ont of his fay and his fiancée that he lov him whout any gay panic, but he had to slog through a lot of gay panic to get there. Early on, when Pete is tryg to make iends, he accintally ends up kissg a gay man (Thomas Lennon).
There is also the prence of Pete’s brother (Andy Samberg), a gay man who specializ turng straight dus. It’s a b plex, and ’s not all good, but I still see as a wele nstctn of the gay panic behd so many of the Apatow edi of that era. While ’s nice that Ferrell and Adam McKay tried to perpetrate this sneak attack on nservative Ameri by havg Will Ferrell kiss a gay, French du, they would have had to break down the stereotype at some pot for this to really work.
