I was a relief to know that I was not “the only gay the village” and to also hear of who else was dog whom at school. The gay man then exhibs all the stereotypil behavrs that we all know gay men exhib, this is done to pensate for or avoid that shame which really don't. Some thgs that the gay man do, some of which I had done myself, to avoid toxic shame are: their satiable taste for fast & fur sex, equally fast & fur relatnships wh men, the qut for the perfect body (their own or someone else's), the perfect sexual partner (of the moment), the perfect latt styl, the perfect rated home the perfect zip , the performg flawlsly at their perfect job, havg the the perfect social life wh their perfect iends, lastly the perfectly ddy nmng judgmental social behavrs that might be entertag for awhile but really don't serve anyone, least of all the man dog them.
Well, when the gay man don't get their way any of the above & a circumstance reveals any of those thgs above life that are not perfect, that one hair out of place, beg ught wearg last seasons fashns, or anythg that would reveal the gay man to be human & imperfect, out the ltle shame monster & the velvet rage. No acknowledgement is ma however highlightg the experience of non cis, non whe gaysToppg that off, the book feels horribly upper middle class; talk of clients om executive backgrounds beg ashamed of who they are.
There's also an assumptn that most gays e om a home wh a rg mother and distant father. Sce a lot of what is said about seekg extrsic validatn uld apply to Instagram stead of jt to people hostg lavish parti or sellg art for tens of thoands of effort is ma to unrstand how a workg class gay wh very ltle disposable e or social pal would have to pe wh what's scribed the openg chapters around the shame of growg up different to most of on said, the openg chapters are fely the strongt part of the book.
Png how I'm sure a lot of queer people, not jt gay cis men, will have e to unrstand the world and learned to pe by behavg certa ways or fal chapters, however, are mdfulns exercis I'm sure a lot of people would benef om. I feel this is more a book for a straight dience lookg to unrstand the gay experience a ltle better, however pats wh both broad strok about gay culture general whilst only ever beg a snapshot of a very particular group of gaysThis was more of a self help book than I was lookg for, I thk.
