I'd have really liked this my Nifty, Leroti and Gay Authors readg days. However Mchell was a very pellg narrator and there was alot of cent social mentary here about what means not only to be a black man, but a black gay man Ameri.
A young gay boy, om his birth to his teenage years, which he experiments his sexualy and his own boundari, to the day he fally meets his father.... * little boy blues gay *
This was the first book I read where the characters were black and gay and out of closet and they were teractg wh other black gay folks. It's sni ments about how the "queens" behave the club or the narrative voice sayg that straight people foc on the "eaks like drag-queens and transsexuals" but if your ear is attune to the prence of the ias they will rankle always wh lerature, there is the possibily that the wrer is g a character whose thoughts are different om their own to explore a different iology so I searched for Hardy's own thoughts on genred polics the queer male muny and found an article he did at the time of the books publishg where he said "people are much more fortable wh imag of black gay men that portray as limp-wristed, vogueg, drag queens".
As a black gay male this has to be the bt adult lerature book I have ever read.
I wasn't faiar wh Hardy's work, but after readg an article that talked about how Jsie Smollett was directg and producg an LGBT film based on this book, I felt the urge to read, I was really pleased by the fact that this was a gay romance wh Black characters wrten by a Black gay man, which was huge pecially nsirg this was published the 90s. Black gays are typilly portrayed as two thgs: ted/feme or thuggish/mascule/unted.
