(Elise Amendola/AP)</figptn></figure></sectn><sectn class="article-sectn--ntent hang-punctuatn article-sectn--first article-sectn--centered article-sectns"><p class="">Boston Pri, the s-old LGBTQ+ group that aniz the cy's Pri Para, will disband.</p><p class="">The nonprof's Board of Directors <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the cisn a statement posted onle Friday afternoon.</p><p class="nt-medium">"Over the past year, we have vted time and energy to addrs the ncerns of the muny," Boston Pri's board of directors wrote a statement on the webse. "It is clear to that our muny needs and wants change whout the volvement of Boston Pri."</p><p class="">The announcement after years of growg tensn wh other Boston-based LGBTQ+ muny lears and anizatns. In 2015, Black Liv Matter prottors terpted the Boston Pri para to mand more clivy and reprentatn the Pri anizatn. And last year, <a href=">80% of Boston Pri's volunteer workforce</a> rigned after a statement put out by Boston Pri's board received backlash. The board me unr fire for removg key parts of the statement, which was origally wrten by the volunteer workforce. Former volunteers alleged that the board removed "Black Liv Matter," whout nsent om s Black Pri mtee members. Workers also ced allegatns of racism and transphobia as reasons they rigned.</p><p class="">Former Boston Pri volunteers went on to form their own anizatns, cludg Pri 4 The People (formerly Boston Pri 4 The People) and Boston Black Pri. In Augt 2020, <a href=">Boston Pri sent letters</a> to anizers of Pri 4 The People and Boston Black Pri, askg that they stop g "Boston Pri" their nam.</p><p class="">In Dec. 2020, Pri 4 The People, Trans Ristance, Boston Black Pri and other LGBTQ+ anizatns <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lled for a boytt of Boston Pri</a> and the Boston Pri Para until<a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> muny mands were met</a>. One of those mands was the rignatn of the current Boston Pri board and the elimatn of bylaws that former volunteers said gave the board unfair and unmocratic ntrol of the anizatn. To date, <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener">26 LGBTQ+ anizatns</a> have joed the boytt.</p><p class="">In rponse, Boston Pri's board released a statement reeratg the anizatn's ditn to hearg muny lears and to transformg s ternal stcture. While the board did not rign, hired diversy nsultg firm Dorrgton & Snrs and created a transformatn advisory mtee to assist wh chang to the anizatn.</p><p class="">This June, Lda DeMar announced her plans to rign om her posn as the board print of Boston Pri by the end of the summer. In an <a href=">terview</a> wh The Boston Globe, DeMar stated that her rignatn was "a ltle accelerated now bee I thk the boytt is really hurtg the muny." The send Trans Ristance March and Vigil, anized by groups boyttg Boston Pri, happened the same week.</p><p class="">In announcg s dissolutn, Boston Pri's board revealed that there will be no "further events or programmg planned, and the board is takg steps to close down the anizatn."</p><hr/><p class=""><i data-strgify-type="alic">CORRECTION: A prev versn of this story misstated the planned events for Boston Pri's 50th anniversary celebratn.
