But now, stunts, faculty members, and admistrators are rensirg what means to be a Morehoe man. </p><p>“We don’t want to put masculy a box,” said hman LaQuton Ga. “We’re nontg the norms. The Morehoe man 2023 is gay, straight, nonbary, and maybe transng.” </p><p>That view is a notable shift, current stunts and alumni said. Speakers that challenge genr norms are beg more equent at Morehoe. There’s an LGBTQ+ group on mp. And, last year, the llege started a <a href=">rearch stute</a> that’s takg an “expansive foc on diverse Black masculi.” </p><p>Johntavis Williams, who graduated 2017, said ’s important that Morehoe is changg wh the tim. There have always been queer stunts on mp — but now they “have more eedom and abily to do and be who they are.” </p><p>“It don’t matter if you’re the ballroom scene or subscribe to LGBTQ+ or not, you reprent the Morehoe brand which is excellence and greatns,” Williams said. “It’s not about what you look like or subscribe to, ’s about what’s unrneath your sk and blood.”</p><p>It hasn’t always been this way. In 2002 a Morehoe junr was beaten wh a baseball bat by another Morehoe stunt, what was seen as an <a href=">anti-gay attack</a>. Morehoe’s drs prevly banned stunts om wearg women’s clothg. A stunt who dropped out of the llege as a rult of the policy told <a href=">VIBE magaze</a> at the time, “Morehoe wasn’t ready for me.” </p><p>Each year on Founr’s Day, stunts wear sus on mp. And hmen mt wear whe shirts, black slacks, and neck ti durg New Stunt Orientatn tradns. </p><p>One source of new thkg on mp is the Black Men’s Rearch Instute, which opened January 2022. Walter Kimbrough, a former print of Philanr Smh College and Dillard Universy, is s terim executive director.</p><p><a href=">Gee M. Johnson</a> — a nonbary wrer and graduate of Virgia Unn Universy and Bowie State Universy — was the first speaker at the stute this year. Johnson vised January to discs their latt book <em>All Boys Aren’t Blue</em>, an exploratn of their upbrgg as a Black queer man Ameri. </p><p>Kimbrough says the stute will ntue hostg events like this. “The ia is, how do Morehoe beg to have broar and eper nversatns about what means to be a man and what masculy looks like 2023?” he said an terview. </p><p>Last month, for example, rapper G Herbo spoke at the stute about the stigmas surroundg therapy and mental health for Black men.</p><p>Kimbrough says that if Morehoe wants to transform s inty and bee more clive, mt give the stunts rourc to explore their sexuali and qutn who they are as people. </p><p>Ga, the hman, is an ambassador for the stute. He says s work challeng stagnant genr polics at Morehoe and beyond.</p><p>“We e tryg to manver the spac bee the subjects n be ntroversial, but we need to reach them. We are puttg ourselv ahead of the game by steppg outsi of tradns. You n’t feel at home if you don’t have stcture or don’t feel fortable,” he said. </p><p>And, a recently formed on-mp anizatn is foced on helpg the Morehoe muny transform s perceptns of what means to be a Black man. </p><p>Da’Marn Miller is a Morehoe senr and the print of Adodi. Adodi, once known as Safe Space, is the llege’s LGBTQ+ anizatn. It offers safe-sex rourc, teach queer history, and offers a place to “kick back and relax,” Miller said. </p><p>“Adodi is the stoppg pot for a lot of people g to llege lookg to get that exposure to the gay muny that they might not have elsewhere,” he said. </p><p>The group enurag stunts to rensir what they thk of when they picture the Man of Morehoe. </p><p>“Morehoe has the ‘Five Wells’ of beg well-drsed, well-read, well-spoken, well-traveled, and well-round. Oftentim, that archetype only appli to people who have nservative views on sexualy,” Miller said. </p><p>In orr to ntue leadg the standard of excellence Black men, stunts said Morehoe’s culture and stunt body mt reflect the diversy of all Black men. </p><p>“Morehoe should be the flt place.
