It was born out of a profound need for gay Asians to have a fom which to discs problems and needs of mutual ncern, and to look for solutns to the issu facg them.
Among the were their perceived stat as sometim ls than full members of the gay muny at large, and the differenc between Asian-Amerins born the Uned Stat and those g here om Asian untri. Prr to 1980, throughout the gay scene of Los Angel, Asian men were rarely seen at most of the bars, clubs and bathho that nstuted the social scene for gay men. A few venu, such as the River Club and Mugi’s, were the only plac for groups of gay Asians to meet and, needls to say, they were not venu for ser discsn.
As a rult, there did not exist a great sense of muny among gay Asian men. Many felt ia of formg an anizatn for gay Asians had been discsed for some years before 1980, but an important impet me om gay liberatn pneer Morris Kight, who then had an Asian partner. And so 1980 the anizatn was born as Asian/Pacific Lbians and Gays (A/PLG).
