As I've mentned before, I grew up Ptsburgh, so when Showtime premiered the first-ever work broadst of a gay drama 20 years ago this month, based Ptsburgh, my tert was naturally piqued. The show's thumpg, gay-central Liberty Avenue downtown Ptsburgh was nothg like the thoroughfare I knew timately, led wh office buildgs and straight bars; more Wall Street than Christopher Street. I unrstood that the creators wanted to show that gay life uld thrive a smaller metropolis, the Midwt, but I wasn't buyg that happeng , there was that naggg envy.
I lacked a re group of gay iends and a gay bar or club we uld ll "our own. " The show ma me feel like I had eher missed out on somethg excg or lost the opportuny to live the life of a ee and nnected gay man.
