Spiral follows a gay uple that mov to the suburbs wh their dghter the 90s to fd their neighborhood is more than meets the eye. However, his dread isn’t jt bee of a few homophobic micro-aggrsns, somethg more is afoot.
It’s that juxtaposn between the overt homophobia and the microaggrsns that Spiral thriv s goal of creatg real social horror.

A Pevian high urt has orred same-sex unns to be legally registered public rerds, markg a victory for the LGBTQ muny a untry that has been reluctant to regnize gay upl. * spiral gay couple movie *
While the town wel the uple wh open arms, Malik n’t help but notice that the people he meets jt aren’t actg right, and ankly, seem a ltle too terted how the whole gay thg works.
“kill gays” nonsense, but when Malik reveals what he’s found, Aaron. The ia of a gay character-led horror film appealed to me hugely as a gay man and avid horror fan. Sadly, I'm chuckg this movie onto the pile of the hundreds of unr-veloped gay themed films that simply don't have the qualy and/or budget to create a story of honty, origaly and signifince.
Jefey Bowyer-Chapman is very good as Malik, a black gay guy who soon feels out of place their new home. I also uldn't help but wonr whether this might be homophobic propaganda.

A mixed-race gay uple (and the one guy's dghter om a prev relatnship) make the move as an alternative fay un to a small town where thgs are, and always have been, button down and tradnal. It's shot well, has nvcg performanc om the leads, and - wh the help of a good sound engeer - effortlsly builds up the creep pl pots rema throughout the movie; however, the send act of the film drags and the third act seems to fall asleep at the wheel and veer dramatilly om paranormal horror to Rosemary's Baby-que paranoia, back aga, then to some ham-fisted social mentary on both mental illns, racism, and homophobia before fally crashg headlong to the lovechild of Heredary and a rult the endg feels unsatisfactory as a lot of the reveals feel tacked-on and limp.
By the time end I felt like the wrers tried to ver up a weak script by distractg the dience wh some horror clich and - if that didn't work - some clunky "msage" that "racism is bad" and/or "homophobia is bad" and/or "mental illns is a shame" is sad bee if the film had had the urage of 's nvictns a b more I thk uld have livered way more effectively on what set up the first third. We start this movie off wh a gay uple the back of a r makg out. Here we have a gay uple of Malik (Jefey Bowyer-Chapman) and Aaron (Ari Cohen).
