Reporter Gurjeet Nanrah spoke wh an aniser who has helped get club nights for Nottgham's gay muny gog aga. It led to the creatn of a Facebook group - 'NG- the old gays' - where 1, 900 share memori om prev years.

"As more and more people om outsi the muny startg gog to NG-One [then stylised as NG1], lost that sense of beg a safe space for gay people.

"It's a loss that we've never really been able to have an answer for and led to people jog the NG- the old gays Facebook group. The proceeds om the night were all donated towards The Spencer Tst - a Nottgham-based chary that works towards suici preventn the gay muny and named after Duane Spencer, who took his own life Febary 2020. "We've seen as a succs and want to ntue supportg suici preventn the gay muny so we are anisg a Christmas event on December 27 specifilly for the LGBTQ+ muny and to raise money for The Spencer Tst.

LGBT+ pubs haven't always been as visible on our cy streets as they are today and many venu had a secret life as gay spac. Palaise De Dance (now Pryzm) This nightclub, which is now Pryzm, was one of the super clubs that hosted gay nights back the 90s for the LGBT muny to enjoy. The Black Boy Hotel, which is now a Primark the cy centre, hoed one of the gay bars the 1960s.

The 'Gay Garage' on Huntgdon Street Huntgdon Street was once home to the 'Gay Garage', now a Shell garage, which was named by those who spilled out of the gay clubs and vised the garage for late-night snacks. For two s, on the first Monday of every month, 'Revolutn' was put on for the gay muny - people travelled om all rners of the East Midlands for the popular night out.

Parksi Club on Statn Street The first ever gay club Nottgham was the Parksi Club, a club on Statn Street which most recently operated as an antiqu centre.

The People's Centre Mansfield Road The People's Centre acted as an alternative cizen's advice bure, holdg face-to-face advice ssns for gay men and women the 1970's.

At the bottom of Broad Street, we see The Newmarket (though not officially gay, has been very gay iendly several rernatns of s life). It was one of the many super clubs to host regular monthly gay night; “Revolutn” anised by Pete Marte (of Sleaze Sisters fame) the late 90s. Turng left at the bottom of Broad Street, a short walk along Upper Parliament Street, is The Old Dog & Partridge, one of the most popular gay bars the 1970s.

” This pub was one of the first to be n by the Bradley fay who monopolised the Nottgham gay scene the 80s & 90s. One famo punter was edienne, Su Pollard who is quoted as sayg, “I met my first gay man when I was fifteen. The high-rise flats of the shoppg centre were famoly known as “Fairy Towers” durg the 1990s due to the number of gay rints.

A uple of doors down, The Forters Inn (not to be mistaken wh The New Forters), was for a long time also nsired gay iendly. Contug down Huntgdon Street and on the rner of Kg Edward street, a small art- buildg (currently a karaoke bar) was formerly Gatsby’s a gay mec for many years om 1983.
