I always assumed he was gay and hated that about himself. Y, I too always thought that Henry Bowers was gay.

Unfortunately, he's jt one a strg of negative gay male characters SK has wrten. I nnot tell if someone I meet is gay or straight... Maybe SK based Henry Bowers on someone he knew whout knowg (or rg) if the guy was gay or straight.

I know my argument will look week bee I don't have any ncrete exampl to give you right now, but much of SK's early wrg is populated wh peripheral male characters who are eher qutnably gay or outright gay and the way he wr them is not very nice. All I know is that havg read SK sce pretty much the begng, there are many tim as a gay male I had to crge at the way he wrote gay mal. Possibly due to his dghter beg gay?..

And jt to be clear, SK has wrten favorable gay male characters. Aga, 's jt been my personal experience that much of his earlier wrg was peppered wh negative gay stereotyp and rogatory language towards gays. I thk argug that Henry is gay based on the evince the book is like argug that Print Obama is a Republin bee he was recently voted/found/polled fislly rponsible.

Gay folk were not looked upon very posively or passnately 'back the day'.

I hontly don't thk that Kg has any type of malicns him that is directed towards gays or lbians, etc. I rpect that and of urse my ratnal md knows "he was g [the negative gay characters] to reflect what our society's morals/mdset were" but Anne Rice started publishg around the same time as SK and while many of her gay male characters are bloodsuckg, murrg vampir, at least they are portrayed affectnately. When Anne wrote Interview Wh The Vampire she had been livg the San Fransis area for que some time, th beg exposed to the gay unter-culture that was prosperg there at that time.

She also has a gay son, Christopher, who is a fe wrer his own regard. Adrian Mellon (here played terribly by former director of note Xavier Dolan) kiss his boyiend at a Derry rnival, and the two are followed out of by a gang of homophobic hoodlums.
