Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly what’s gog on when seasonal chang send our moods out of whack, <a data-offer-url=" class="external-lk" data-event-click="{"element":"ExternalLk","outgogURL":"" href=" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Norman Rosenthal, M.D.</a>, psychiatrist and the first rearcher to scribe and name SAD, tells SELF, but there are theori, mostly related to a person’s tolerance for heat or ambient light (we’ll get to that later). In wter, there’s advice like gettg a sunlamp and makg sure to go outsi—but what are you supposed to do the summer when seemgly everyone else is olickg around unburned by this totally unseasonal gloom? Luckily, experts have some tips:</p><h2>1. If you’re feelg prsure to make sure your summer liv up to all of that, first ask yourself if you even <em>like</em> all of that. It n be really helpful to take some time to nsir what your ial summer actually looks like and then fd others who feel the same way, says Wch. If your ia of a perfect summer is <a href=">avoidg the sun</a> at all sts, blastg the A/C, and tchg up on all your favore shows, you’re not alone. (In fact, I’ll jo you!)</p><p>Of urse, if you’re drawn to the makgs of a “typil” summer season but ’s not the rds for you for whatever reason, the ia of lowerg your expectatns n feel impossible. Tellg yourself that ’s OK not to have your dream summer don’t magilly erase your sire to have that experience. But rolvg to do your bt not to mate on expectatns you n’t meet n be eeg, says Wch. Somethg that n make a big difference here is takg <a href=">social media</a> wh a big, fat gra of salt—remember that people put their bt liv forward on social media, and ’s very unlikely that someone is actually havg the Bt Summer Ever even if looks that way on Instagram.</p><h2>3. Be proactive about meetg your own expectatns.</h2><p>All of that said, havg expectatns isn’t necsarily a bad thg, says Wch. A lot of the time, people have certa expectatns for the summer—gog to the beach, hangg out wh iends, tchg up on readg, whatever—and they totally have the abily to meet them. They ’t. It happens! Summer is a lethargic season and the ll of stayg si ont of your A/C n be so, so sctive. Pl, life don’t stop for summer jt bee we want to.</p><p>But if you know you’re someone who always gets let down by their own expectatns, you have to be proactive. “You have to set up the kds of circumstanc that will allow you to enjoy the thgs you were expectg to enjoy,” says Wch. So if your ia of a great summer is the possibily of a summer flg, you might have to dt off those datg apps, or if you want to make to the beach, you might have to be the one to rally your iends and
