The missn of South Carola Pri Movement is to support the Gay, Lbian, Bisexual, and Transgenr muny of South Carola; to celebrate the richns and diversy of LGBT liv; to te the general populatn on LGBT issu; and to advote for equaly and cln all areas of life. At a gay and lbian muny piic held on Dreher Island the fall of 1989, PFLAG parent Harriet Hanck worked the small crowd wh a clipboard, askg if folks would be willg to march down Columbia’s Ma Street a gay march.
“Sleepy ltle old Columbia didn’t thk had any gay people till saw them the streets, ” says Harriet Hanck, one of the anizers of the first march. Though the march moved to Greenville and Myrtle Beach when the statehoe was beg renovated 1997 and 1998, and the SC Pri Movement skipped 2000 and 2001 as the anizatn went through s own transns, SC Pri remaed a part of Columbia’s gay and lbian history and a cril pot of statewi LGBT anizg for the past 30 years.
