(There were four transgenr ndidat, but none were elected.) The ascendant Sttish Natnalists have seven LGB MPs, more than 12 percent of their parliamentary hort. In the prev Sttish parliament, Tori had more gay MPs than all other parti.</p></div><div class="article-body" data-qa="article-body"><p data-ttid="drop-p-letter" data-el="text" class="wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overriStyl font-py" dir="null">Nor is this a peculiarly Brish phenomenon. Of the 82 openly LGBT natnal reprentativ newly elected around the world over the last five years, one-third have been om right-wg parti, another third have e om left-wg parti, and the remag third are centrists, greens and natnalists. Right-of-center policians who intify as LGB are members of parliaments Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Lhuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Slovakia, Swen, and Swzerland, and there is likely to be a gay Likud MP the Israeli Knset soon. Stt Walker says he wants a nstutnal amendment to ban gay marriage. Ted Cz says that a Supreme Court lg favor of marriage equaly would be “fundamentally illegimate.” Mike Huckabee, Mar Rub, Rick Perry, Rick Santom, and Ben Carson have all ma opposn to gay rights featur of their mpaigns.</p></div><div class="article-body" data-qa="article-body"><p data-ttid="drop-p-letter" data-el="text" class="wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overriStyl font-py" dir="null">In ntrast to Europe, LGBT voters Ameri are overwhelmgly liberal. Three-quarters of self-intified LGBT voters <a href=">supported Obama</a> 2012. But the Republins aren’t losg only those few vot by opposg LGBT rights. Republins’ antigay agenda lims their abily to reach out to morat and pennts. Although few voters say they ci whom to vote for solely on LGBT issu, they draw larger nclns about the Republin Party’s re valu based on s aggrsively LGBT-hostile stance.</p></div><div class="article-body" data-qa="article-body"><p data-ttid="drop-p-letter" data-el="text" class="wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overriStyl font-py" dir="null">As Amerin voters creasgly embrace LGBT iends, fay members and neighbors, and turn LGBT rights, Republins creasgly are seen as out of sync. The most recent <a href=">Pew pollg</a> shows that as many pennts support same-sex marriage as Democrats: 65 percent. More than two-thirds of voters who intify as ‘morate’ support marriage equaly. Ined, why is the Amerin right so far behd siar parti other mocraci? The answer may rt on a distctive idsyncrasy: the GOP is often beholn to evangelil Christians. “Evangelil” is key that sentence.
