I saw this film on a plane and thoroughly enjoyed , particularly the performance of Philip Seymour Hoffmann whom I found spectacular as a lonely, vulnerable, wty drag queen reachg out to recent stroke victim, homophobic DeNiro. While a lser actor would have taken the role of Rty as a riture of gay and transgenr stereotyp, Hoffman performs the role wh ep sensivy and rpect for the trials of someone livg a misunrstood life.
Deniro's p go through a huge transformatn om homophobe to someone who learns the value of people whom he may not fully unrstand, and do so wh a lite, nuanced touch. I love this movie, even if only for the scene wh Hoffman talkg to the Log Cab Republin about their own bias agast more flamboyant gays. Unfortunately, the story meanrs too often to irrelevant characters and scen that don't really ntribute much (like the Gay Republins).
