As a tween, she went to the library and took out <a href="><em>Tippg the Velvet</em></a>, Sarah Waters’ 1998 lbian perd novel that was later adapted to a BBC seri. But sce the only versn that was left was for the visually impaired, the book was huge. Madley Croft tried hidg unr her pillow, and her dad eventually found . “I was stg at the puter, and he hand me a leaflet for a gay and lbian book fair. I looked at him and was like, "What are you tryg—?" I jt sort of nodd, and that was .” She lghs and shak her head, as though she still n’t believe . “That was my g out.”</p><p>Madley Croft’s mother <a href=">tragilly died</a> of a bra hemorrhage when she was only 11, so she never got to nnect wh her mom about her queerns. “I'm really close wh her sisters,” she says. “They tell me about her, which is so special, and they say she would have been
