In 1970 an LSE stunt found the UK branch of the Gay Liberatn Front, a prott group that mand equal rights for LGBT people, and for all. LSE Library Curator Dr Gillian Murphy troduc the Gay Liberatn Front and shar some of the posters, photographs and leaflets relatg to their activi that you n fd the archiv here at LSE. The Gay Liberatn Front (GLF) origated the Uned Stat shortly after the Stonewall Uprisgs that began on 28 June 1969 New York Cy.

THE GAY LIBERATN FRONT’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The Gay Liberatn Front Demands c1970 MCINTOSH/7/1. Slogans such as “Gay is Good”, “All power to opprsed people” and “Come Out” n be seen on their leaflets and posters, rercg their msage.

A leaflet advertisg the very first Gay Liberatn Front Dance HCA/BEACH/7. “Gay Days” were held parks wh gam, kiss-s, sp the bottle and sg-a-longs to emergg gay folk classics. On 28 Augt 1971, the GLF Gay Youth group anised a monstratn Trafalgar Square mandg age of nsent be rced om 21 to 16, the same as for heterosexuals.

In July 1972, the GLF anised the first Gay Pri march startg at Trafalgar Square and endg Hy Park. Homema banners read “Gay is Proud”, “Homosexuals are Nature’s Children” and “We are humansexuals”. First UK Gay Pri, 1 July 1972 at Nelson’s Column Trafalgar Square.

LSE EXHIBN MARKS 50 YEARS OF WOMEN AND GAY LIBERATN MOVEMENTS THE UK

On 14 October 1970 the first UK meetg of the Gay Liberatn Front was held an LSE classroom. My chief amic tert is Brish cultural history of the last few centuri, wh particular attentn to the fay and the posn of homosexual men and women … My objective unrtakg graduate study is to try and throw light on the social forc that have lead [sic] to the begngs of a dramatic change the posn of homosexual women and society.

On 13 October 1970 the Gay Liberatn Front (GLF) met for the first time the UK – a classroom  LSE’s St Clements buildg. The GLF was a massively fluential part of the gay rights movement the UK.

Febary 2015 is LGBT history month and LSE is holdg a special event durg s annual Lerary Ftival, njunctn wh LSE’s LGBT+ staff work, Spectm: A Ltle Gay History. Spectm is the LSE LGBT+ staff work for lbian, gay, bisexual and trans(genr) people.
