CHURCH OF NIGERIA CRICIZ ACNA OVER “DEAR GAY ANGLINS” LETTER
A group led by aspirant, Pieter Valk, has put out a letter entled, Dear Gay Anglins, rponse to the College of Bishops’ pastoral letter on inty. In many of our partner provc, the practice of homosexualy is agast the law, and to make matters more difficult, they ually don’t unrstand the nuanc of the word “gay” or “homosexual attractn” — they jt hear the practice of same-sex immoraly. Others signed out of angry disagreement wh our disuragg the e of any pronoun before Christian, specifilly “Gay Christian.
The Bishops noted “that the stggle wh human inty is real and paful for Christians who experience same-sex attractn” and reject the e of language that intify such people for who they are- Gays; preferrg that they be addrsed as “Christians who experience same-sex attractn”. The College of Bishops also upheld a mment to subsidiary which fers to dcan bishops, discernment on how to handle homosexuals their church muni. Its appeal to subsidiary is another trick not to subm to the clear thory of Scripture on homosexualy, rather, they fer to dividual Bishops discretn of discernment on how to relate to homosexuals, and offer them room.
In the same ve, we nnot scribe people as ‘Christian Murrer’, ‘Christian Adulterer’ and ‘Christian terrorist’; neher should we even have ‘Gay Christian’ or ‘Gay Anglin’. Takg advantage of the ACNA Bishops Pastoral Letter, a group wh ACNA published an vatn to ‘Gay Anglins’ offerg them vatn and pastoral acmodatn ACNA parish. We appreciate Archbishop Foley Beach’s terventn by which the offensive Gay Anglin letter was removed om the web; but this has not cured the diseas that has set already neher has migated the damage this has done by the public advertisement and the changg perceptn of the ACNA stand on Biblil orthodoxy and GAFCON Movement.
THE DEAR GAY ANGLINS LETTER
The Church of Nigeria views the events as most unfortunate and dangero to the e of Missn based on the Tth of the Gospel, pecially at a time when secular ernments are adoptg aggrsive mpaign for global homosexual culture. We therefore ll upon the Archbishop and the College of Bishops of ACNA to make fe, unambiguo statement nmng the actns taken by the Gay activists their midst, nounce their actn, dissociate ACNA om the group, disciple the errg bishops, prits and lay who signed the offensive Pro-Gay letter and reaffirm ACNA’s mment to all the fundamentals of orthodox Christian fah and the rolutns of the GAFCON Jesalem Declaratns and Statement. It should take a clear stand on their posn on homosexualy and same -sex relatns of all typ.
The Church of Nigeria affirms s total rejectn of homosexualy and will surely stand to fend the Tth of the Gospel based on the junctns and ethil prcipl of the Holy Bible. In Febary 2021, Anglin clergy released the Dear Gay Anglins Letter to wele gay agnostics cur about gettg to know J an Anglin ntext and gay Christians mted to a tradnal sexual ethic. Learn more about the Dear Gay Anglins Letter at is a fal reflectn om me as the thor and anizer of the Letter:Thank you for all of the enuragg msag and quiri about my well-beg.
GAY ANGLINS THE ACNA
Draftg the Dear Gay Anglins Letter started wh great hope of sendg a welg msage to gay agnostics cur about gettg to know J an Anglin ntext and gay Christians mted to a tradnal sexual ethic.
We (1) plimented, never cricized the Statement, (2) only ed "same-sex attracted/n" sentenc that referred to the Statement, (3) never ed "gay Christian" or modified "Christian", and (4) ed "same-sex attracted/n" most equently. Based on nversatn wh learship shortly after the Statement was released, the Dear Gay Anglins Letter did not vlate the requirements dictated by the a prayer gatherg wh ial signatori before the Letter was released, I prayed wh tears that crics would read the words the Letter.
Global lears the ACNA acced me of "dissentg", "misleadg", "unrmg", and spreadg "the adly vis of homosexualy" that mt be "expunged and excised".
GAY CHRISTIANS, ACNA AND GAFCON
They lled for my exmunitn, for me to be barred om discerng ordatn, and for lears to "cut off the ncer and send a msage"—all while celebratg civil laws Ai that punish gay people for the mere spicn of gay sex.
At the same time, the prits repeated the tired lie that I s merely by experiencg same-sex attractn and that I should daily feel guilty and repent of the ultimately, the Dear Gay Anglins Letter acplished a lot of good, and I am hopeful for the ACNA.
A meangful mory of ACNA lears at the hight levels publicly embraced gay Christians mted to a tradnal sexual ethic. Then jt 36 hours, the Dear Gay Anglins Letter gaed 140 signatur cludg 2 more bishops and 40 more prits om 10+ dc across North Ameri. Many ACNA church and prits publicly nfsed the ss of the Church agast gay people and mted to practil actn on behalf of gay Christians mted to a tradnal sexual ethic.
