In this Q&A, the SSA’s Natalie Davi asks Patriic Gayle about the missn of the Gay Men’s Health Collective, their novative letterbox-sized ‘safer chemsex’ packs, and why some gay men are reluctant to accs or return to mastream dg servic. Natalie: Firstly, I’d love to know about the origs of the Gay Men’s Health Collective and what your anisatn’s missn is today.

Patriic: “The missn of the Gay Men’s Health Collective (GMHC) is to promote the health and wellbeg of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex wh men (GBMSM). Our origs n be traced back to 2009, when a small group of gay men – affected by the emergence of three new(ish) dgs (GHB/GBL, crystal meth and mephedrone), a sharp rise HIV and hepatis C, and an absence of harm rctn – teamed up. “ is our primary project, and is believed to be the first of s kd the UK – approachg gay men’s health holistilly rather than through the lens of sgle issu like HIV, ‘g out’, or hate crim.

In fact, at the time, we said ‘We actively enurage our lleagu and partners the chemsex field to review and update their safer chemsex rmatn, ensurg gay men are provid wh nsistent harm rctn, signpostg, advice and support.
