The Rabow Round Table (RRT) of the Amerin Library Associatn (ALA) was found 1970 as ALA's Task Force on Gay Liberatn. It is the natn's first gay, lbian, bisexual and transgenr profsnal anizatn. On July 1st at the ALA Annual Conference Detro, MI, the Task Force on Gay Liberatn meets for the first time. A social and “nscns-raisg event” was held wh members of the Detro Gay Liberatn Front. Barbara Gtgs puts together a list of 37 gay-posive books, magaze articl, and pamphlets - the first versn of a rource that would bee known as “A Gay Biblgraphy.

In June at the ALA Annual Conference Dallas, TX, the Task Force announc the first wner of the Gay Book Award: A Place for Us by Isabel Miller (published by McGraw Hill as Patience and Sarah, ISBN: 9780070420359) and holds s first program “Sex and the Sgle Cataloger: New Thoughts on Some Unthkable Subjects” wh panelists Joan Marshall and Steve Wolf. The Task Force has a “Hug-a-Homosexual” booth the exhib hall.
At the ALA Annual Conference San Francis, over 400 people attend a panel on gay and lbian characters YA novels. ALA’s Task Force on Gay Liberatn chang s name to the “Gay Task Force. In rponse to Ana Bryant’s anti-gay csa, the Task Force subms a succsful rolutn to ALA Council reaffirmg ALA’s support of equal employment opportuny.

The Gay, Lbian, Bisexual, Transgenr Round (GLBTRT) was renamed to the Rabow Round Table (RRT). Gay, Lbian, Bisexual, and Transgenred Round Table. The GLBTRT was found 1970 as the Task Force on Gay Liberatn.

It formed a climate of social and polil prott cludg the anti-Vietnam War movement, the civil rights movement, the women’s liberatn movement, and the gay liberatn movement the wake of the Stonewall Rts 1969. Barbara Gtgs, a self-scribed “full-time gay activist, ” got volved the Task Force soon after s formatn and began pilg the first Gay Biblgraphy, a list of gay-posive books and rmatn rourc.

In s early years the Gay Task Force foced s efforts on improvg library service and rmatn accs for gay and lbian library ers, and on the profsnal needs of gay and lbian librarians cludg job discrimatn. Gtgs’ Gay Biblgraphy was part of this ial effort to improve patron accs to gay rmatn and materials that have a posive view on homosexualy.
