Born Clarksburg, Wt Virgia 1925 to Richard and Thelma Gaylord, Frank Gaylord reportedly began his sculptg reer at the age of three, craftg animals out of clay when his grandmother refed to make them for him.
Gaylord went on to attend Washgton Irvg High School Clarksburg, graduatg 1943 and subsequently beg drafted by the Uned Stat Army a few weeks later. Servg wh the 1st Battaln, 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 17th Airborne Divison the Send World War, Gaylord received the Bronze Star for Valor for his actns and spent many months a ary hospal reverg om juri he endured while returng stati, Frank Gaylord enrolled the School of Art at the Carnegie Instute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon) Ptsburgh, Pennsylvania on the GI Bill.
