Anrson was eventually tried for perjury, where a urt charged her for “lyg” about her sex on her marriage license. Too often, queer Black people are wrten out of our own histori — om the books we’re fed history class, you’d assume the Civil Rights Movement was only led by straight Black men and women, while the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement was spearhead by a sea of whe gay men. That’s why ’s nice to see a sectn dited to someone like <a href=">Bayard Rt</a>, the unapologetilly gay activist behd ccial Civil Rights events like the March on Washgton, the Freedom Ris, and the Southern Christian Learship Conference. While his name don’t immediately mand the same rponse as Mallm X or Rosa Parks, his work was jt as important. (It was his time India studyg the pacifist philosophy of Gandhi that would eventually spire Mart Luther Kg, Jr.’s “nonvlent” approach to prottg, after all.)
