Among the sapphic portns of the ter, this propensy for standom is no different. What is tertg about this type of stanng, however, is that the particulars of the fandoms (or even that they exist at all) often go unnoticed by the rt of the ter. </p><p><span>Some of the objects of the fans’ affectns are also beloved by the rt of the world – </span><a href=" rel>Cate Blanchett</a><span> and </span><a href=" rel>Sandra Bullock</a><span> are both very famo actors, for example, as is bisexual in Angela Jolie – but others fly more unr the radar. For this week’s issue, I wanted to dig to one of the lser-known lbian ins – an Irish actrs by the name of Katie McGrath. I wanted to look at McGrath today bee of this tertg dichotomy of her stardom – if you’ve spent any time on lbian-Tumblr over the last, say, 8 years, you’ve probably seen untls gifs of her face, but if you haven’t, you may have never even heard of her. (Please ment and let me know which is the se for you!)</span></p><p><span>It’s difficult to get a full handle on what mak McGrath so beloved by sapphics, but I’ll enavor to try. McGrath ially gaed regnn for her role on the BBC seri </span><em>Merl</em><span>, which ran om 2008 to 2012. She then starred an episo of the Channel 4 anthology seri </span><em>Dat</em><span> where she go on a date wh Gemma Chan. In 2013 she starred </span><em>Dracula</em><span>, where, as far as I n tell, she played a gay vampire. She then went on to star the horror anthology </span><em>Slasher</em><span> 2016, and an Atralian seri lled </span><em>Secret Brismaids' Bs</em><span>, where she plays a bossy bs bisexual, 2019. The show that has garnered her the most sapphic acclaim as of late is undoubtedly The CW seri </span><em>Supergirl, </em><span>which she joed as a st member 2016. (She also appeared 2015’s </span><em>Jurrasic World</em><span> as Bryce Dallas Howard’s assistant who promptly gets </span><a href=" rel>eaten by a dosr</a><span>. This cryptic energy is pound by the fact that she also don’t have any public social media acunts. Some stars are famo part bee of their social media prence (see: the chaotic onle antics of Sarah Plson), while others are adored bee of how blissfully unaware they seem to be about their own fandoms (see: Cate Blanchett, who once said she has a total of </span><a href=" rel>three fans</a><span>). As such, when photos of her do appear – on the social media of iends or stmat – fans are giddy wh excement. This also means that her fandom is filled wh a particular brand of longg brought about by this lack of off-screen ntent. For fans of “offle” celebri, </span><a href=" rel>this hardship</a><span> seems to be one that fact brgs them together, rather than tears them apart. I brg this up bee seems celebri are beg more aware (or at least beg told) of their queer fandoms, wh the rpons om the aforementned women beg downright lightful. I myself stopped watchg the show after a </span><em>different</em><span> </span><a href=" rel>lbian ntroversy</a><span>, but even wh one eye closed, I unrstand their appeal. For this week’s issue, I wanted to dig to one of the lser-known lbian ins – an Irish actrs by the name of Katie McGrath. I wanted to look at McGrath today bee of this tertg dichotomy of her stardom – if you’ve spent any time on lbian-Tumblr over the last, say, 8 years, you’ve probably seen untls gifs of her face, but if you haven’t, you may have never even heard of her. I brg this up bee seems celebri are beg more aware (or at least beg told) of their queer fandoms, wh the rpons om the aforementned women beg downright lightful. McGrath, for her part, seems at least somewhat aware of her sapphic followg bee of her proven awarens of the fandom surroundg her character on </span><em>Supergirl</em><span> has (more on this later). </span></p><p><span>The appeal of Mcgrath among sapphic fans is th twofold – first, she has played a signifint number of nonilly sapphic characters (by my unt, 3, but rrect me if I’m wrong). But then there is the notn that even if she is not playg a </span><em>nonilly </em><span>queer character, she brgs a palpable sapphic energy to each role (see: Supergirl).
