I am married to a man who grew up Black and gay Florida. As a teacher, I’ve seen untls kids who have to endure a nstant bate over who they are as Tuday, the Florida Senate voted to pass the ntroversial Parental Rights Edutn bill, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by opponents. They believe that children ag 5 to 9 are pable of unrstandg the ncept of beg LGBTQ+ and that such discsns are “appropriate” for kids that age an early child tor and as a gay man, I know this is ludicro.
I knew I was gay at 4 years old, even if I did not yet fully unrstand or have a name for what I was feelg at the time. Wh legislatn like the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the answer appears to be a roundg “no.
