A Texas Department of Public Safety DNA lab report nfirmed that blood found on the Jeep's rear rgo mat matched Gaytan, acrdg to documents. Detectiv nclud that Gaytan was ad and had been killed by Marquez at his home before her body was transported the Jeep to an unknown lotn only accsible by off-road vehicl and that he ed the shovel to bury the enforcement and volunteers have searched the Red Sands sert area several tim but have not found Gaytan's body. Today the an at the Sacramento Cy College Davis Center, Gaytan has dited her reer to higher tn wh a foc on advotg for unrreprented stunts.
“It’s very healg for me to see how much UC Davis has evolved and improved, ” Gaytan said. “One of the biggt motivatns for the hunger strike was to hold admistratn acuntable to many of the expectatns and needs that stunts had been voicg for years, ” Gaytan said.
Years later, Gaytan – who had earned a master’s gree and tght ternatnally – would return to UC Davis and the CCC.

As a member of stunt ernment who assisted creatg the Prcipl of Communy and other iativ, Gaytan feared the learship would not follow through wh the chang quickly. Like many first-year stunts, Gaytan arrived at UC Davis expectg a tradnal llege experience.

“I felt a tge of imposter syndrome while gettg to know so many fabulo stunts and peers who had done amazg thgs – I was feelg aquate a lot of ways, ” Gaytan said. After stgglg amilly, Gaytan found tert ethnic studi and China/Chino studi bee the class helped change her outlook on beg at UC Davis. “Those urs opened my ey and helped me feel more empowered and proud of who I was, ” Gaytan said.
