AGLP, celebratg over 40 years of service to the LGBTQ Communy, trac s roots to the late 1960s, when gay and lbian members of the Amerin Psychiatric Associatn (APA) met secretly at the annual meetgs. At that time, most stat, homosexualy uld be ed as e for the loss of licensure to practice psychiatry. John Fryer In 1972, and the behd-the-scen work of several members of what was then referred to as the GayPA, the APA removed homosexualy om their diagnostic manual (DSM).
This allowed a more open associatn of lbian and gay psychiatrists, who no longer had to fear for their jobs if they were found out to be gay.
