Gayhurst predat the Domday Book, and the earlit known documented date for a church here is 1227, although the current church dat om a rebuildg of 1728 by the Wrighte fay, then owners of the 16th century Gayhurst Manor, set close nearby. Rememberg Gayhurst’s role World War Two the church displays a table nner embroired wh the nam of one of the Watch of Wrens statned here.

Gayhurst Court li ral north Buckghamshire, 3km north-wt of Newport Pagnell and 1km south-wt of the adjacent tate of Tyrgham, the low-lyg, gently undulatg valley of the River Great Oe.

The 100ha se is bound to the east by the Gayhurst to Haversham Lane, to the north-east by the River Great Oe, to the north-wt by the B526 om Newport Pagnell and other adjog lan, to the wt by Gayhurst and Bunsty Woods, and to the south-wt by agricultural land. The small village of Gayhurst which li along the B526 was removed om the vicy of the hoe the early C18.

CONTACT GAYHURST SCHOOL

The northern sectn now curv wt to Dairy Farm, prevly lled Gayhurst Farm, stead of to the east, where formerly the drive entered the garn through the se of the prent sewage plant, givg accs to the foreurt (this sectn now (1997) gone). Gayhurst Court (Hoe) (listed gra I), which li at the centre of the se, was enlarged om an early C16 buildg by William Moulsoe om 1597.

The hoe has views south-east over the south park, north-wt across the park to Gayhurst Wood and north-east across the park to the tree belt along the village boundary. The north-wt lawn extends for 100m north-wt and then for a further 100m of paddock to a ha-ha, wh a view to the park along the urse of a mid to late C19 elm avenue (now gone) across a symmetrilly curved dip the park landform (possibly a Brown feature), which extends the view towards Gayhurst Wood.

The tunnel emerg on the north si of the road through a stic stone fa to ornamentally planted woodland known as Gayhurst Spney, which has the remas of several paths nng through . The se of a double avenue of elms ns north-wt om the north-wt garn, wh associated earthworks cludg a level platform c 400m north-wt of the hoe, a cuttg through ground which ris away om the hoe to reveal Gayhurst Wood beyond, and a ep dch along the fence le which bisects the se of the avenue about half way along .

CONTACT GAYHURST SCHOOL

Gayhurst Wood bounds this area to the wt, wh, to the east, Digby's Walk overlookg this part of the park. North of the B526 a path leads north om the chalybeate sprg Gayhurst Spney to fe parkland, now lackg tre, north of the spney and directly overlookg the river, wh a stone bathhoe (C18, listed gra II, much extend 1990s) the middle, dated 1751 and possibly by Brown, embellished by Repton.

South of the spney a large open water meadow, bound by the road and the river, visually nnects the Gayhurst parkland wh that of Tyrgham, wh views of Tyrgham Hoe, bridge and park across the river.

It is probable that Repton, when workg on both tat c 1793, tend to e the adjacent views across the Tyrgham parkland as a borrowed landspe, nnectg Gayhurst Hoe wh the river by g Digby's Walk to and through the spney, and takg advantage of the views and walks to the open land to north and south wh cints such as the Sprg and two boatho (now gone).
