Acquired to al wh the perceived threat om the Rsian Pacific fleet, Gayundah and her sister ship Paluma were the first vsels orred by the Queensland ernment for the lony's Marime Defence Force. Gayundah and crew while servg the Queensland Marime Defence Force.

Gayundah sailed om Newstle-on-Tyne for Atralia unr the mand of Capta Henry Townley-Wright, RN, on 13 November 1884. Proceedg via Gibraltar, Malta, Suez, An, Colombo, Batavia, Thursday Island and Townsville, Gayundah arrived at Brisbane on 28 March 1885.

Thereafter Gayundah's chief duti were the protectn of Moreton Bay and trag ship for the Queensland Marime Defence Force.

While unrgog repairs Sydney durg 1913-14 Gayundah received some stctural alteratns, a raised forestle takg the place of the turtleback forward.

Wh the threat om German merchant rairs creasg after 1917, Gayundah first assumed patrol duti off Port Jackson and later the Spencer Gulf. Gayundah as a sand and gravel barge the Brisbane River.

On 23 Augt 1918 Gayundah fally paid off Melbourne. On 2 June 1958 after seventy four years afloat, Gayundah was beached as a breakwater off the Woody Pot cliffs on the Redcliffe Pensula jt north of Brisbane. Gayundah at Redcliffe 1974.
