the background and don’t like to reveal much about his personal life – which is odd, sce we are meetg ostensibly to talk about his appearance on SBS TV show <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Who Do You Thk You Are?</em></a>, which his fay history will be set out for a large dience.</p><p>So why agree to go on TV and then help promote the show by talkg to journalists?</p><p>“It was the rrot of fdg out about my great-great-grandmother [who was born England],” he says. The low-key choice of eatery turns out to be bee the owner is a iend of one of his nephews.</p><p>Fatt’s choice of grey and black cloth is a disappotment but his choice of toed sho (like foot glov) adds some of the quirks one would expect om a man who has spent most of his reer the primary-loured world of pre-schoolers.</p><p>Do he ever wear purple, I ask? Only for work, he tells me. I had expected a certa high-tensy zans and tal of high jks on tour, but Fatt is warm and pleasant and givg nothg much away.<strong> </strong></p><p>I am all too aware of how long Atralia’s most succsful children’s group, the Wiggl, has been around: my elst child was born the same year the band formed and grew up to a soundtrack that clud such favour as <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga,</em> <em>Big Red Car</em>!</a>, <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Hot Potato</em></a> and <a href=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Wake Up Jeff!.</em></a></p><p>In the mid 1990s, I eded a magaze for prchoolers and did a uple of photo shoots wh the band. Fatt, unsurprisgly, don’t remember them sce there were no dramas and the Wiggl were credibly by shootg their first vios and tourg the regns at that time.</p><p>The genis of the Wiggl, which was the brachild of blue Wiggle Anthony Field, has been told often: through the 1980s Field and Fatt worked together a pub band lled the Cockroach. He drafted Fatt, and the Wiggl were born. Their first album, rerd their first year together, sold 100,000 pi. It would kick back to rhythm but now ’s permanently AF, which is not unfortable. He lov sgg. He’ll be three October, and he knows all the lyrics.”</p><p>It sounds as if the Fatts are a mil fay, I say.</p><p>“Mum played the piano, as did my siblgs; better than I do,” he says. “I n’t sight-read; well I n, but very slowly. My bra is not nfigured that way; I image perhaps I’m slightly dyslexic. I don’t have a great technil expertise; aquate enough for purpose.”</p><p>He says he fds memorisg lyrics hard, too.</p><p>Dog the fay history show has given him much greater appreciatn of his Che anctors. However, was his half-European great-grandmother, Emma Tear Tack, he was keen to learn more about.</p><p>Her parents met and married durg the Victorian gold sh era.
