Mirrored on the classic '60s televisn seri starrg Adam Wt as Batman and Burt Ward as his sikick, Rob, Schumacher's films took the rtoonish elements full-throttle (the giant BAM!s and POW!s terspersed throughout those '60s fight scen, unrsred wh groovy mic, were notably absent even though they'd probably f wh the tone of the films). Rather than takg Burton's lead and addg a sister unrtone to the films' villas—or reeratg Batman's orig story and his tortured, gloomy soul—Schumacher's daffy films brought joy back to Batman, remdg his dience that the bt aspects of Batman universe is not the ma character. Instead, 's the schemg crimals who are the te stars; while Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze was, well, a bt, you n't ny the power of the dapper Two-Face (played by Tommy Lee Jon), the manic Riddler (a perfectly employed Jim Carrey), and the sctive Poison Ivy (a vampy Uma Thurman). Nolan's films are majtilly filmed, if tonally overwrought; the self-serns overwhelms any bs of self-humor.
