When wrer Roxane Gay dubbed herself a "bad femist," she was makg a joke, acknowledgg that she uldn't possibly live up to the mands for perfectn of the femist movement. But she's realized that the joke rang hollow. In a thoughtful and provotive talk, she asks to embrace all flavors of femism -- and make the small choic that, en masse, might lead to actual change.

And yet I know his ntug sults agast women are not sgular; attacks are fterg om a wi st of misogynists, om the Llie Moonv type to the “cel” type to the Alabama statehoe is forcg some soul searchg on me — namely nontg the worseng attus toward women next to the rapid-fire gas of gay male liberatn recent years. WHY GAY MEN DON’T NEED FEMISM – PART 2: THE TAKEOVER
Are we gay men who claim to be femist really so? The spate of anti-women legislatn mands we start showg up for women. * are all feminist gay *
Today’s gay male el should be standg for women: batg sexual asslt; advancg women’s reproductive rights; mandg paid materny leave and support for child re; fendg immigrant women pg domtic vlence and rape; and supportg all those women who are cidly not “post-work, ” but rather reprent nearly two-thirds of the mimum-wage men shouldn’t domate the bate, but neher should we hang back apathy, fatigue or fear of sayg the wrong thg.

Rose McGowan attempted to rally support for femism among gay men by optg for the fely more bizarre approach of hurlg a barrage of all-too-faiar Co Black Shamg Language [5] at them: “Gay men are as misogynistic as straight men, if not more so, ” she said.

Perhaps the most alarmg of all was McGowan’s claim that she has been a long-time supporter of gay men and their rights, th offerg an sight to the rather cur approach that femists tend to adopt toward their supposed alli. A note to Rose McGowan: beg rmed by an alleged celebry that, que ankly, most gay men like me had never heard of, that she is “really upset” about our lack of enthiasm for her bigoted, anti-male iology that regards gay men as, at bt, token lackeys who ought to be ashamed of our misogynistic ‘rejectn’ of women, is not somethg that will terpt my sleep any time soon.
The fact that she assum that will, speaks more to her narcissism, her staggerg sense of entlement and the supremacist leangs of her chosen iology than do about the gay men she has publicly, and rather ironilly, nmned as “lnal”. Public attacks like the have the benef of alertg many gay men to the fact that femism is one belligerent, foot-stompg Diva they would be well-advised to step as far away om as possible, and proceed to expose her te nature to the world at large.
From Everyday Femism:“The gay rights movement has won rights and regnn that largely serve the terts of whe, wealthy cisgenr gay men to the triment of poor queers and queer people of lor, and to the triment of racial and enomic jtice more generally. Like many gay men, the only thg I n discern that femism has ever done for me is to maner my own human rights movement unr the guise of a purported alliance, and g as a vehicle to promote an anti-male hate movement hell-bent on unrmg the rights and welfare of men and boys – a mographic that clus me – attemptg to rope me to helpg to monize my own mascule inty and, if that weren’t enough, brawashg the more suggtible of my gay brethren to accg our straight brothers of beg rponsible for every problem and jtice the world has ever known.
OPINION: ON GAY MEN AND THE FEMIST MOVEMENT
Lbian femism, a polil and theoretil movement wh femism that emerged the send half of the 20th century at the nvergence of the women’s movement, the gay rights movement, and the sexual revolutn. Lbian femists advoted alternative ways of thkg about genr and power. * are all feminist gay *
It is ltle wonr that as early as 1976, renowned gay rights activist, John Lrson, was already lamentg the fact that femists had bullied their way to the gay rights movement, effectively margalizg the gay men wh , and turng the gay rights movement to what he lled “the fag end of femism. Women we had never seen before would e and liver tiras agast the GLF men; they would say that not only were gay men more sexist or more male chvist than straight men, but men GLF were among the worst of all.
They charged that the panel was “elist” and “sexist” (although half of the panelists were women); their ma ostensible grievance was that on a table the hall, provid for leaflets and ee lerature, were pi of Gay newspaper, which they had found a reproductn of a betiful, lh, reclg female nu, pated the style of classic romanticism.
It is tertg to note that Lrson believ that one of the ma reasons why femists got away wh -optg the gay rights movement all those years ago, and have enjoyed virtual immuny om cricism for dog so, is bee – like Er Pizzey and her associat – most of the gay men were aaid of them. So would seem that gay men are not really so badly off, and perhaps would be better if they did not vote their energi to repealg sodomy statut and fightg discrimatn, bee the goals if realized would simply give them equaly wh straight men, th objectively creasg the opprsn of women.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF LBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENR SOCIAL MOVEMENTS
Femists prefer gay men, like women, to perceive themselv as perpetual victims, and to st straight men as the villas who are rponsible for everythg they hate about their liv and the world they which they live.
Perhaps the real purpose of creatg Queer Theory was to divert the attentn of gay men away om femist rhetoric the hope that they wouldn’t notice the staggerg homophobia of femism’s most proment and fluential theorists.
When gay men intify as femists, you n be certa that they have never read much femist theory, bee if they had, they would never embrace an iology that relentlsly nigrat them a manner that would make a plard-wieldg Wtboro Baptist homophobe crge. The most important take-away for gay men who read is that there is no unter-theory om proment femists that refut any of the relentlsly hateful drivel that has been offered by the vanguards of femism over the past five s – and is much too late to for them to attempt to do so now. Suffice to say that is not very plimentary, or a particularly big secret – except perhaps to the gay men of Gay Pri Toronto, who may want to rethk allowg femists to ntue poisong their ranks, providg, of urse, that they ever get around to readg .
