Gay people here have always had low-key spots where they went to meet one another. ) But the 1960s and ’70s, somethg new emerged—a specific neighborhood where gay people lived and socialized openly, fg a muny that proclaimed s buddg self-nfince through shared public space.

Plenty of gay people still gravate toward Shaw, but no longer feels like the center of DC’s LGBTQ world—where everythg is always happeng, where you know you’ll be surround by like-md people who get and accept you. In the era of Grdr, there isn’t as much reason to go to gayborhoods, and even when people do socialize offle, gay-iendly optns are flourishg all over the cy.
